Greater Manchester Cancer Alliance is looking to appoint a Cancer Workforce and Education Manager to work closely with the Programme Lead and Programme Director for Workforce and Education to drive forward delivery of the Greater Manchester Cancer Workforce Strategy on behalf of Greater Manchester Cancer Alliance.
The post holders will be part of the Workforce and Education Team, supporting delivery of the workforce and education programme, implementing initiatives, and managing a portfolio of workforce and education projects, identified to support the required expansion of skills and transformation of the Cancer Workforce as outlined in the National Cancer Workforce Plan and National and Regional People Plans.
Manage a portfolio of workforce and education projects.
Liaise with appropriate functions within GM Cancer and the Greater Manchester Integrated Care on joint project matters.
Manage and contribute to the reporting of progress/under performance of projects to the GM Cancer Workforce and Education Board, GM Cancer Programme Assurance Group and other Boards and Committees, as required.
Manage and contribute to project plan reviews to ensure that any underperformance or potential delay is identified early, reported to the GM Cancer Workforce and Education Board, and ensure that remedial action agreed by the Board is actioned within the agreed timescale.
We are looking for a passionate and innovative individual with strong leadership skills, previous experience leading workforce transformation across multiple organisations, experience working with a variety of senior stakeholders, and leading projects in complex and challenging environments
Greater Manchester Cancer Alliance (GM Cancer) is a venture that brings together patients, charities, NHS and academic institutions with the aim of securing world-class cancer outcomes and experience for our population.
The Alliance Workforce and Education team are dynamic, diligent, and passionate about supporting the cancer workforce to ensure they have the right skills to respond to the needs of people affected by cancer, adapt to new, improved ways of working, continue to modernise the way they work and embrace technology in order to deliver the best quality healthcare.
This is a really exciting opportunity to help shape the future of the cancer workforce for Greater Manchester, and to essentially improve outcomes for people affected by cancer.
Lead planning and delivery of the programme, including the identification of key milestones, deliverables, and benefits.
Work with stakeholders to support the delivery of the cancer workforce strategy / implementation plan, ensuring this aligns to national, regional, and local objectives.
Promote the importance of workforce and education transformation in the delivery of all GM Cancer projects / the GM Cancer strategy, and organise events were appropriate.
Build links with GM Cancer Pathway boards to ensure workforce and education transformation is always on the agenda.Link in with relevant national, regional workforce groups were appropriate as well as the overall GM Cancer Workforce Steering Group to promote the GM Cancer workforce and education programme.
Promote the strategy within GM and East Cheshire localities to inform local workforce and education strategies.Support the implementation of the cancer workforce strategy for Greater Manchester and East Cheshire.
Be a champion for workforce and education transformation across Greater Manchester and East Cheshire, as well as co-ordinate and respond to national / regional work.
Exert influence upon senior clinical and managerial colleagues to ensure that implementation of the strategy remain a priority in their own work programmes.
Remain up to date with workforce and education developments within the GM Integrated Care and from a national / regional perspective and disseminate these developments to the appropriate audience.
Promote the use of the Health Education England STAR workforce tool to support transformation initiatives.Act as the workforce and education representative on various cancer pathway boards.
Manage the administration of various workforce and education meetings and project specific boards.
Oversee the preparation of agendas, papers and minutes for project specific meetings and follow up agreed actions with responsible group members, holding them to account for lack of progress.
Build relationships across the Greater Manchester and East Cheshire region, including primary, secondary and community care as well as public & patient engagement.
Manage workforce and education project dashboards to measure success within the workforce and education programme.Be a point of contact for various workforce and education workstreams.
Lead the development of innovative proposals for workforce and education transformation projects.
Create reports and papers to update relevant boards and project steering groups on project developments and to seek approval for recommended action.
Data and information
Collate data and literature into concise reports and tools and present to the Workforce and Education Programme Lead, making clear recommendations for action.
In conjunction with the Workforce and Education Programme Lead, review how workforce data is captured across GM to ensure this is fit for purpose and influences the workforce programme.
Planning and reporting
Manage Workforce and Education project plans for the various projects ensuring that this contains clear objectives, tasks and identified leads.
Ensure that the work plan reflects, and contributes towards the delivery of the Cancer Workforce strategy / implementation plan and objectives of improved clinical care and patient experience.
Track progress against these outcome measures and provide progress reports to project steering groups and the Cancer Workforce and Education Board when require.
Maintain a risk register for the relevant workstreams, reporting risks and issues to the Programme Lead, Cancer Workforce and Education Board when required.

Has worked with senior clinical colleagues to improve services
Has led projects in complex and challenging environments

Can use Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint software to a high standard
Can produce concise and insightful written materials for senior stakeholders or a broader audience as appropriate
Can challenge other team members and senior colleagues when necessary
Numerate and able to understand complex financial information
Can develop plans for the short and long term for services that extend across multiple organisations and adjust them as required
Can monitor progress against plans, escalating risks and issues as appropriate
