    Senior Hardware Engineer

    Location: Cambridge

    Salary: Circa £70k to £80k

    Our client is an innovative technology company based in Cambridge that actively contributes to industrial product development. Their tight-knit team is expanding and seeking skilled professionals to enhance their hardware and software capabilities.

    Role Summary

    They seek an enthusiastic Senior Hardware Engineer who is proficient in PCB design and FPGA development for embedded systems. Their projects encompass both research and development initiatives aligned with their parent company's objectives. Their team focuses on creating systems tailored for power electronics applications.

    Collaboration with their colleagues in Germany is integral, necessitating occasional travel to Regensburg, Bavaria—a delightful locale conveniently located near Nuremberg and Munich.

    Their embedded systems span from small microcontroller-based applications to complex embedded Linux systems. The ideal candidate will possess PCB schematic capture and layout expertise, with an advantageous background in power electronics.

    About You

    • Hold a degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics, Physics, or related field
    • Enjoy digital and analog circuit design
    • Value functional testing and verification of circuit performance
    • Understand design considerations for manufacturability
    • Capable of articulating and documenting design ideas within an experienced engineering team
    • Possess innovative ideas coupled with pragmatic execution
    • Willingness to assist in recruitment and mentorship of junior team members
    • Effective self-organisation and time management skills

    Essential Skills

    • Minimum five years of experience in schematic capture and PCB layout using Altium or similar tools
    • Proficiency in PLD/FPGA design with Verilog and/or VHDL
    • Hands-on experience with bench-level testing and lab equipment
    • Proficient in programming embedded microcontrollers

    Desirable Skills

    • Background in power electronics, such as DC-DC converters or motor drives
    • Software development experience in C/C++ or Python for embedded systems
    • Familiarity with EMC and environmental testing conducted by external test houses
    • Knowledge of communication interfaces like Ethernet/EtherCAT or MODBUS/TCP
