    Respiratory Physiologist/Healthcare Scientist

    An exciting opportunity has arisen for a dynamic and motivated individual to join the Respiratory Medicine department at St. Bartholomew's Hospital on a full time basis. We are seeking to recruit a highly skilled Respiratory Physiologist to join our expanding team and to ensure the delivery of a high quality lung function service.

    This is an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic Respiratory Physiologist to become part of an innovative service at Barts Health NHS Trust. The post holder will be based at St Bartholomew's and will be required to do some work at the satellite laboratory at the Royal London Hospital. We have a fully functioning, modern lung function laboratory providing all the routine tests including spirometry, transfer factor, lung volumes (body box), ear-lobe blood gases and cardio-pulmonary exercise tests. For our specialist asthma and allergy service, we perform histamine challenges and skin prick testing. For our tertiary Sleep and Ventilation patients, we undertake inpatient and outpatient sleep studies including multi-channel polygraphy and overnight oximetry. We also have the ability to do Fitness to Fly tests and shunt testing. We hope to develop the Sleep service to provide nocturnal capnography and full polysomnography in the future.

    The post holder must hold a BSc degree in Clinical Physiologist with ARTP part 1, or Equivalent and must also be RCCP/ registered or Equivalent

    Main duties of the job

    An opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and motivated Band 5 Respiratory Physiologist/Healthcare scientist to become an integral part of Lung Function Unit at Barts NHS Trust on a part time basis

    The successful applicant will be expected to perform both routine and more specialised lung function tests on inpatients and outpatients with a range of medical conditions. They will also be expected to support the busy and expanding sleep service.

    This role will primarily be based at St. Bartholomew's Hospital, however there may be a requirement to work and undertake training at the Royal London site on occasion.

    Essential

  • Scientific knowledge acquired through formal training to Clinical Physiology BSc or equivalent.
  • ARTP Part 1/ARTP Practitioner exam
  • Desirable

  • ARTP Part 2
  • Experience

    Essential

  • Training/experience in areas of routine respiratory physiology measurements.
  • Desirable

  • Supervised training/experience of sleep physiology and therapies and complex respiratory physiological measurements such as hypoxic challenge tests and cardiopulmonary exercise testing

  • Excellent communication skills working with colleagues and the general public.
