Principal Development Engineer - Warwick, United Kingdom - National Grid

    Default job background
    Description

    About the role

Join us and deliver a cleaner, greener future through offshore hybrid projects.

is at the heart of UK's transition to our net zero energy future. We operate several HVDC interconnectors that connect the UK's energy system to some of our closest neighbours, allowing energy to be imported to and exported from the UK. As well as already owning a portfolio of HVDC Interconnectors, we're working on developing new projects to ensure that we can meet the UK's future demands for greener energy solutions.

As a Principal Development Engineer, you'll be responsible for the technical development of new interconnector projects looking at onshore and offshore cables and converter stations. This is a fantastic opportunity supporting projects from early concept development through to procurement and delivery. You will fulfil relevant CDM requirements and co-ordination of subcontractors. In addition to working with internal stakeholders this role will involve working in co-ordination with European partner organisations in the development of detailed project requirements.

This includes projects such as - a first-of-its-kind electricity link to connect offshore wind between the UK and the Netherlands, and - a new multi-purpose interconnector combining offshore wind generation with interconnector capacity between the UK and Belgium. So if you're driven by solving the big questions of tomorrow - join us, and bring energy to life

This role is based from Warwick and you can enjoy our hybrid working from office and home. There is also the potential for international travel as required.

    Key accountabilities

  • Work with consultants developing end to end cable routes including onshore/offshore, landfalls and converter site locations project managing the delivery of objectives and assessments.
  • Develop detailed specifications which capture the technical requirements for new interconnectors.
  • Work with European TSO project partners and windfarm developers to develop integrated interconnector designs including for Offshore Hybrid Assets.
  • Work with the Global Procurement team through contract tendering and up to contract award, being responsible for technical queries, evaluating tender submissions, and supporting contract award recommendations.
  • Project Manage subcontractors as required to deliver elements of the work including route design and assessment, onshore surveys and offshore surveys.
  • Support the planning and consenting process for new interconnectors and liaison with external bodies as part of the Development Consent Order process.
  • Represent the company in design reviews with contractors ensuring optimal outputs for the company.
  • Within all work delivered maintain the highest level of standards in respect of Health, Safety and Environmental issues.
  • Produce reports, presentations as required to support key decision points and capture analysis, designs and lessons learned.
  • About you

  • Proficient project management skills including management of time, cost, safety and risk.
  • A stakeholder-centric approach to delivering a high-quality output.
  • Proficient knowledge of the application of CDM.
  • Don't meet every single requirement? Studies have shown that women and people of colour are less likely to apply for jobs unless they meet every single qualification. At National Grid Interconnectors, we are committed to building a diverse, inclusive and authentic workplace for everyone. So, if you're excited about this role but your experience or qualifications don't match the job description exactly, we encourage you to apply anyway.
