Bird & Blend was set up and is run by Krisi and Mike, who met whilst studying Politics (of all things) at university.

Starting off packing tea in their bedroom and attending markets, building Bird & Blend from scratch while staying true to our ethos and values has been Krisi and Mike's passion.

The Business Context & Purpose

  • Currently ~ 160 employees over our warehouse, 14 retail locations across the UK, and support centre functions. In the next couple of years we intend to expand the retail network to include a total of 24 stores.

Why We Need You


The People & Culture Advisor role is an exciting opportunity to help the People & Culture Team deliver a 'People First' culture and experience to both our existing and potential employees.

Reporting to the Head of People & Culture, you will be responsible for helping to develop and enhance the experience for our employees across the business, by ensuring effective people operations, policy and advice.


As People & Culture Advisor, you will play a key role in the design, implementation and embedding of effective people operations processes, as well as embracing a hands-on approach to ensure the day to day is delivered with exceptional quality.


Core Responsibilities

People Partnering & Employee Lifecycle

  • Build effective relationships with stakeholders across the business, to embed our P&C strategy, culture and values.
  • Identify, design and implement improvements for our People Processes, ensuring technology is harnessed and they are as efficient as possible.
  • Be the first point of contact for managers and employees across the business, offering tailored people related advice, escalating when necessary.
  • Track and support managers with employee probation check ins and expiry as well as coach people managers to hold probation meetings as and when necessary, addressing any performance concerns efficiently
  • Work with managers to ensure payroll is accurate and timely, and champion relevant systems and platforms
  • Support, advise and coach managers through any performance management concerns
  • Own and manage an effective onboarding process for new starters, including drafting contracts, new starter paperwork and maintaining all spreadsheets designed to manage the onboarding process
  • Ensure all compliance processes are completed to include reference checks, Right To Work checks etc.
  • Manage the leaver process to include drafting paperwork, ensuring BambooHR is updated, submitting IT Leaver Requests etc.
  • Drive and monitor all H&S training completion across the business

Employee Relations

  • Coach and support stakeholders in the end to end management of ER issues, ensuring we are fair, consistent and compliant, whilst fostering a supportive, inclusive and highperforming culture.
  • Identify and act on opportunities to coach people managers and empower them to effectively manage their teams
  • Keep employment relations trackers up to date with actions, information needed

People & Culture Projects

  • Lead by example as active participant in business wide projects and committees including but not limited to EDI, Wellbeing and Sustainability
  • Keep policies and procedures under review to identify opportunities for improvement and development, recommending changes as required.
  • Review and analyse People & Culture data, to provide insights and recommendations on how we can continue to improve our employee experience

Recruitment

  • Partner with managers to manage our recruitment process to attract and select talent e.g. assessing appropriate recruitment methods and job boards, ensuring our attraction and selection processes are robust, fair and without bias
  • Support stakeholders with end to end recruitment process (internal and external) to include screening, task assessment, interviews, assessment centres and administration as appropriate.

Skills, experience & attributes:


  • A current People & Culture Advisor or experienced People & Culture Assistant capable of taking initiative and able to deliver long term priorities whilst managing day to day issues as they arise.
  • Experience in a retail business environment.
  • Strong experience in dealing with and coaching managers
