    Description

    Taylor Hopkinson is looking to appoint an Onshore Connections Manager for a leading offshore wind farm developer. Reporting to the Head of Onshore Engineering & Grid, the Onshore Connections Manager is responsible for the technical, regulatory and connection aspects of the project's electrical engineering scope. This includes integration with other technologies where appropriate and covers projects across multiple countries.

    The ideal candidate will be comfortable being the technical expert on electrical matters, with the ability to work both autonomously and as part of a team.

    They will have the ability to identify and solve problems using their expertise, including identifying opportunities to reduce costs and minimise environmental impacts, coupled with the skills to communicate these problems to others who are non-technical.

    This role covers the entire project development from concept design through to construction, installation & commissioning of assets, and potentially onto operations & maintenance.

    Experience in regulatory issues and connection processes in UK is required.

    This is a permanent staff position and can be based anywhere in the UK with travel to one of their Scotland or London based offices when required.

    The role

    • Develop and maintain understanding of the UK onshore grid connection processes and associated technical codes (Grid Code, Distribution Code or equivalents) from initial assessment to final agreement, including engagement with key stakeholders and early identification of potential risks and issues.
    • Provide support and guidance to the Project lead (BD or Project manager).
    • Analyse and report on potential connection options, associated costs, risks and potential impacts on the programme.
    • Explore opportunities for synergies and coordination with internal stakeholders and other developers in terms of shared solutions.
    • Support on Grid Code Compliance Requirements and development of project documentation.
    • Support Regulation team in the UK, develop and maintain understanding of the UK onshore regulatory regimes from a grid/ technical perspective to address the challenges and opportunities it represents for projects.
    • Participate in consultations and forums with government, regulators, TSOs and other stakeholders related to the development of onshore renewable energy.
    • Support Procurement in establishing and maintaining relationships with suppliers for the technology in his/her scope, as well as assisting with cost analysis and providing input regarding price levels of main equipment and installation.
    • Support Procurement in the running of tender processes for Grid connections, by assisting the delivery of technical materials, such as BOQs, layouts, design drawings and calculations for RFQs, as well as reviewing and evaluating tender responses.
    • Support the development and management of project design.
    • Continuously monitor and implement mitigation measures to manage grid connection risks.

    Required skills & experience

    • Bachelor or master's in electrical engineering or related discipline.
    • At least 5 years of relevant experience in a similar role.
    • In-depth knowledge of the UK energy industry, including a clear understanding of the key concepts, regulation and stakeholders.
    • Ability to communicate complex information to others in an accessible manner.
    • Ability to be effective in cross-cultural teams.
    • Systematic and detail-oriented approach to deliver high-quality solutions.
    • Experience of technical due diligence process
    • Excellent communication skills (internal and external stakeholders and partners, technical and non-technical)
    • Full clean driving license
    • Knowledge of MS Office

    Desirable skills & experience:

    • Established relationships with key agencies and other stakeholders related to grid connection are highly desirable
    • Management of consultants and contractors
    • Understanding and experience of environmental and sustainability aspects
    • Additional languages skills
