About us:


The Dementia Research Centre (DRC) is based in the Department of Neurodegenerative Disease, which is recognised as one of foremost international centres for the study of dementia and other neurodegenerative disease.

The DRC is a multidisciplinary research centre with the overarching aim of improving the diagnosis, treatment and care of patients with dementia and the support for their families.


About the role:


We have an exciting opportunity for a Research Fellow to join our team focusing on identifying biomarkers in the dementias.


You will work with the team to develop and analyse digital biomarkers for frontotemporal dementia (FTD) including development of phone-and tablet-based cognitive markers and measures of cognition using eye-tracking, as well novel digital measures of motor dysfunction.

An honorary contract will be sought from UCLH NHS Foundation Trust, for which a DBS check will be required.


The role is available from May 2023 and funded by a grant from the Bluefield Project for one year in the first instance.

About you:


You will have a PhD or equivalent experience in neuroscience research and a good working knowledge of neurodegenerative disease and underlying causes of FTD.

You will be able to work in a fast-paced environment and will have demonstrable organisational skills with the ability to manage a cycle of projects from inception to completion.

Experience of developing digital biomarkers in FTD, testing them in patients, and performing appropriate statistical analyses of digital biomarker data are also required for this role.


What we offer:


The role is offered with a starting salary of £38,308 per annum including London Allowance, on the UCL Grade 7.


Appointment at Grade 7 is dependent upon having been awarded a PhD; if this is not the case, initial appointment will be at research assistant Grade 6B (salary £34,502 - £36,348 per annum) with payment at Grade 7 being backdated to the date of final submission of the PhD thesis.
