Job summary:

We are delighted to advertise this key role at RNAS Yeovilton, Somerset.

This decisive position will be working within Executive Corporate Business Services Team where we need a Safety, Health and Environment Specialist to join our excellent team This is an exciting opportunity for someone who wants to embark on a new adventure in their chosen career.


The Health, Safety and Environmental Protection Adviser (HS&EPA) will lead the work within the Health, Safety and Environmental Protection Unit at HMS Heron ensuring the Environmental Management Systems and relevant certifications are maintained.

You will own the small Health and Safety Team and will focus on coordinating the Health, Safety and Environment activities in support of Head of Establishment (HoE) statutory responsibilities.

You will be required to provide competent advice and guidance to HoE and other station personnel as their proficient person, as well as Senior Managers and for reporting to the Command Board on Health Safety & Environmental Protection (HS&EP) performance.

This position is advertised at 37 hours per week.

Person specification:


  • Acting as HoE appointed HS&EPA with delegated authorities in support of monitoring, reviewing activities on site to ensure compliance with HoE Organisational and Arrangements Statement. As part of a change programme help develop a Total Safety Culture that will lead to the delivery of a Total Safety Cell utilising 'Functional Safety' and 'Air Safety' methodologies as a best practice approach. Lead 2PA team identifying noncompliances and making recommendations for correction. Monitoring and tracking to completion. HoE representative at Site Infrastructure, project startup and change meetings. Contributor to risk register detailing legislative and statutory compliance requirements to assist both Risk Owner and Managers. Provision of specialist advice on HS&EP Safety throughout RNAS Yeovilton as required in accordance with MOD policy and legislation. Acting as the lead, monitoring and updating of HS&EP guidance in line with Ministry of Defence's (MOD) policy.
  • We also need the role to develop and lead accident and incident(A&I) reporting. This will see HS&EPA managing the process for promotion, reporting and closure of Navy Command NLIMS on station including identification of trends and recommendations for improvement as required. Ensure trend analysis is timely and provided termly to each of the management boards for discussion. The role will support the business in developing Organisational Safety Assessments during change acting as the Organisation Subject Matter Expert (SME) on such matters. Responsible for SHE action plan in conjunction with Executive Officer.
