    Have an interest in the neurosciences, but not sure if you have the skills and knowledge to work at The Walton Centre? These posts are the perfect opportunity to prove that you do, with the support of a warm and enthusiastic team of experienced therapists

    We are seeking to recruit to a range of posts, including:

    1 x permanent rotational Band 5 OT post, rotating between the acute wards and the Complex Rehabilitation Unit

    1 x fixed-term Band 5 OT post (12 months)

    Experienced Band 5 OTs looking for career progression are all welcome applicants. Please note We are very keen to consider highly motivated Band 5s with 9+ months experience for transitional posts to Band 6 (separately advertised) - should you be the successful applicant, we would support your career transition, starting from a Band 5 salary to Band 6 within 6-12 months of appointment, should you demonstrate achievement of the required competencies, which are based upon the Cheshire and Merseyside AHP Faculty Passport. An in-depth knowledge of neurosciences is not essential, as you will be supported to acquire these skills.

    The working hours are Monday to Friday, 8am - 4pm. Currently there are no weekend working requirements and conversations regarding flexible working are welcomed.

    Main duties of the job

    To assess and treat patients within designated specialist clinical area.

    To work flexibly according to service needs

    To assist senior therapy staff in service development and the provision of a quality service.

    To take responsibility where appropriate, for therapy assistant staff and students and delegate duties as necessary, providing appropriate level of support at all times.

    Under the direction of supervisor and other team members assist with specified areas of service provision as appropriate

    Where appropriate participate in clinical rotations across all areas of the Walton Centre Therapy service as directed by Therapy Managers.

    Establish and manage a clinical caseload as appropriate to the service

    To work collaboratively with other clinicians, including medical and nursing staff to influence service development and ensure quality of care is delivered

    To provide clinical education and training to other health care professionals

    Influence research and professional development for self and others.

    Job responsibilities

    Role summary

    To assess and treat routine patients putting into practice clinical reasoning and clinical skills with guidance and supervision from Occupational Therapy Team Leaders / ESPs / Clinical Specialists.

    Guided by professional standards and guidelines. Accountable for own professional actions.

    Clinical responsibilities

    1. To undertake occupational therapy assessment, clinically diagnose and implement agreed treatment plans in a manner that respects peoples privacy, dignity and individuality

    2. To rotate at agreed regular intervals as part of the Band 5 rotation programme.

    3. To work flexibly across a 7 day week according to service need

    4. To be a member of the multidisciplinary team and actively participate in meetings.

    5. To ensure effective internal and external two-way communication with patients, carers and all other Health and Social Care Professionals regarding all aspects of patient care. Providing and receiving complex information which requires empathy and reassurance. Communicating where there may be barriers to understanding

    6. To maintain accurate professional documentation in line with Royal College of Occupational Therapy (RCOT) standards and local policies and procedures. Contributing to documentation monitoring as required.

    7. To liaise regularly with Occupational Therapy / Physiotherapy Team Leaders / ESPs / Clinical Specialists regarding caseloads, treatment progression and on-going care.

    8. To assist where necessary in the provision of cover for the service as a whole in times of annual leave / sickness etc.

    9. To undertake occupational therapy home assessments in line with health and safety policy and RCOT Home Visit Standards for Practice Guidelines.

    10. To assess for, prescribe and authorise requests for minor adaptations and specialist equipment in a safe and competent manner. Paying due attention to risk, safety, choice, independence and use of resources.

    Qualifications

    Essential

  • BSc (Hons) Degree in Occupational Therapy or equivalent
  • Health Professions Council Registered Occupational Therapist
  • Desirable

  • Member of college of the Royal College of Occupational Therapists (RCOT)
  • Member of the RCOT, Specialist Section, Neurological Practice (SSNP)
  • Experience

    Essential

  • Proven experience in the acute hospital setting.
  • Demonstrates an understanding of the role of occupational therapy within acute neurology, neurosurgery and rehabilitation.
  • Must demonstrate knowledge of MDT working and the role of the occupational therapist within the team.
  • Ability to think quickly, assess clinical situations and take decisions upon that information.
  • Well-developed problem solving and activity analysis skills
  • Well organised and good time management skills.
  • Must demonstrate knowledge of team/group dynamics and the role of the occupational therapist within a team.
  • Must be able to work independently or as part of a team
  • Good communication skills and interpersonal skills are essential.
  • Must be able to maintain patient confidentiality.
  • Ability to liaise effectively within the multi-disciplinary team.
  • Ability to motivate self, patients and others
  • Actively promotes occupational therapy.
  • Ability to meet physical requirements of the job role.
  • General good health and reliability of attendance.
