    Job summary

    University Hospitals Dorset are looking for a Special Pharmacist to join our dedicated team

    You will be working in Haematology and Oncology and the Aseptic Production Unit and will perform clinical screening of chemotherapy to ensure our patient receive their treatment efficiently and safely.

    Further duties include:

  • Participating in clinical pharmacy meetings and contributing to the clinical pharmacy service as appropriate by liaising with all pharmacists and departmental management.
  • Providing complex medicines information to patients, carers, doctors, nurses and other healthcare professionals.Undertaking projects that will improve the quality of patient care and/or contribute to effective drugs budget management within the directorate.
  • Reviewing and assisting in the development of medication related policies, guidelines and audits in this specialist areaClinically screen Intravenous and Oral chemotherapy prescriptions for haematology and oncology patients in the inpatient and outpatient setting.
  • Works within operational parameters, agreed standard procedures and systems of work at all times thus ensuring a high level of patient safety is maintained.
  • This is a cross site Clinical Pharmacy role so this post also offers an excellent step up into a leadership role, allowing you to develop further skills whilst being fully supported and developed. Post holders will be working in a supportive team environment where the aim is for all to develop and succeed
  • Main duties of the job

The patient is at the centre of all that we do and our strategy is to provide a pharmacy service that has medicines optimisation at its heart. EPMA (Electronic Prescribing and Medicines Administration) has been implemented at both sites increasing patient safety and accuracy.

    Applicants must be registered as a pharmacist with the General Pharmaceutical Council.

    Full-time hours per week.

    Weekend shifts 1 in 5 (either Saturday or Sunday) and approximately one Bank Holiday shift per year.

    Base Location: Royal Bournemouth or Poole Hospital

  • Registered with GPhC
  • Master's degree in Pharmacy or equivalent
  • Desirable

  • Diploma in Clinical Pharmacy or equivalent experience
  • Experience

    Essential

  • 1-2 years NHS hospital experience post qualification
  • Clinical audit / Drug Use Review projects
  • Desirable

  • Experience in Haematology/Oncology or Pharmacy Aseptic Services
