    Job summary

    We are looking for an enthusiastic, experienced medical physicist, to join a team of physicists, engineers and dosimetrists/technologists in the provision of radiotherapy physics services (Linac, Brachytherapy and Molecular Radiotherapy).You will have achieved state registration or be eligible with equivalent radiotherapy physics experience. Ideally you will be a registered MPE or working towards submitting an application to be registered. You will have a solid background in dosimetry and quality assurance for radiotherapy equipment and have extensive treatment planning techniques. Experience with Brachytherapy and/or Molecular radiotherapy would be an work will involve contact with patients and the ability to communicate clearly and sympathetically with patients having a variety of backgrounds is essential.

    Main duties of the job

    The main role of this post is to provide senior support to all aspects of the work of the radiotherapy Physics (Photon) Group including QA, dosimetry, treatment planning and checking, Brachytherapy and Molecular radiotherapy and to act as, or work towards acting as, a Medical Physics Expert, as defined in IR(ME)R 2000. The post-holder will also initiate and contribute to developments within the Radiotherapy Physics (Photon) service and contribute to research and teaching.

    Person Specification

    Knowledge and Qualifications

    Essential

  • Good First Degree in a Physical Science or equivalent
  • Relevant Masters or higher degree
  • STP Training Exit Certificate or equivalent
  • State Registered Clinical Scientist or eligible
  • Desirable

  • Corporate Membership of Professional Institute or eligible
  • Eligible for MPE Registration
  • Experience

    Essential

  • Relevant post-graduate experience in Radiotherapy Physics
  • Relevant experience in Radiotherapy Dosimetry and Quality Assurance, including patient specific checks
  • Relevant experience in Treatment Planning including VMAT and IMRT techniques and principles
  • Experience in the clinical environment
  • Clear understanding of current Codes of practice and dosimetry chain
  • Understanding of patient and staff risks arising from treatment planning computer system errors, equipment failure, treatment errors and incorrect dosimetry
  • Knowledge of appropriate legislation [eg IRR, IR(ME)R, ISO 9001:2000, BSI and ISO standards, professional and regulatory body reports and guidelines
  • Desirable

  • Experience in SABR planning and delivery techniques

  • Experience of a variety of computing systems, programming languages and application packages.
