- Job description
- The role of Team Leader is one of the most varied and important roles in our organisation. The National Permitting Service (NPS) are seeking Team Leaders to join us at an exciting time, playing a leading role by supporting our people to help create a cleaner, safer and healthier environment.
As a leader, you will work with your team members to be the best they can be through managing their performance, support them through change, looking after their health, safety and wellbeing and supporting their development.
NPS regulate activities that impact the environment and your role will be crucial to this work.Your teams will have direct contact with applicants for environmental permits and licenses.
You will be part of a diverse organisation that takes pride in welcoming applicants from all sections of the community, in line with our aim to be the top employer for Equality, Diversity and Inclusion.
You will be required to have an incident management role and make yourself available to respond to incidents, or provide business continuity support during an incident.
This may attract an additional payment and full training and alternative working arrangements will be available to support you with your incident role.

- The National Permitting Service delivers the Environment Agency's permitting and regulatory responsibilities, enabling businesses to operate whilst protecting and improving the environment.
- Experience/skills required
- The ability to direct, motivate and lead a team to deliver results
- Well organised with the ability to adapt to changing demands, handling multiple priorities and delivering within tight timescales
- Strong customer focus with influencing skills that will ensure good outcomes for the permitting service.
- Excellent communication skills
- Ability to lead change well within your team
- Good judgement, problem solving and decision making skills
- A broad knowledge of Environment Agency duties and responsibilities
- The ability to work collaboratively with people throughout the organisation
- Passionate about the environment
- Champion Equality, Diversity and Inclusivity (EDI) through your positive and flexible leadership style
Previous experience of leading a team, knowledge of the environmental permitting process and the work of NPS is desirable, but not essential.
