    Nurse Specialist Children in Care - London, United Kingdom - Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust

    Description

    An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Paediatric Nurse to join our Neurosciences service for 1 year as a Clinical Nurse Specialist .

    Working predominantly across the Neuroinflammation Service and Neuromuscular services at the Evelina London Children's Hospital .


    The Evelina London Children's neuroinflammation services provide a comprehensive diagnostic and management service for children affected by disorders such as encephalitis and Multiple Sclerosis.


    The majority of children are seen as outpatients or on the day-case unit but for those who require it, there are comprehensive inpatient, including intensive care facilities.


    Evelina London provides care for children and young people from across south London and south east England and provides a comprehensive range of hospital services, caring for patients from before birth, through childhood and on to adult services.


    You will be responsible for developing and working within evidence-based specialist pathways of care, guidelines, protocols and patient group directives to support patients and their families to improve care delivery.

    Clinical and Patient Care

    Independently manage a group of patients within the specialty whilstworking as part of the multidisciplinary team, delivering specialisedindividualised and personalised direct patient care
    Demonstrate appropriate practice and specialist advice in the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of patient care. This includes history taking, physical examination and the requesting of agreed diagnostic procedures/clinical investigations.

    Act as an advocate for patients within the department, to ensure a patient orientated approach to the delivery of care and to meet standards withinthe NHS Plan and other relevant guidelines.

    Ensure that patients receive high quality clinical care and a good patient experience, having regard for their customs, religious beliefs and doctrines.

    Recognise and avoid situations that may be detrimental to the health and wellbeing of the individuals.
    To provide leadership, support and guidance to staff in monitoring theplanning delivery and evaluation of individualised specialist care.

    Is wholly accountable for his / her practice in line with the NMC code of professional conduct and takes every reasonable opportunity to sustain and improve his / her knowledge and professional competence.

    Ensure safe and effective care for complex patients requiring advanced specialist clinical skills and responsible for carrying out specialist nursingprocedures to area.

    Participate in case conferences in relation to the management of patients, ensuring the coordination of ongoing care.

    Ensure staff take precautions to minimise the risk of cross infection inrelation to the safe disposal of body fluids (including blood).

    A key member of the multidisciplinary team in supporting patients and their carers during the delivery of bad news such as caring for the terminally ill patients and the event of death.

    Promote high quality clinical care, and assist in the development of the specialist service, through the use of evidence based practice and clinical standards
    Provide a seamless, high quality service from referral through to assessment,diagnosis, treatment and review.

    *Child Registered Nurse on the NMC register
    Your professional knowledge acquired at degree level will be supplemented by specialist training, experience and or courses
    Experience of nursing research /audit
    Experience of using of variety of IT applications to undertake clinic/meetings and patient care

    Relevant clinical experience in Neurology
    Experience of audit, research & evidence based care

    Previous experience as CNS or other senior role
