    Advanced Neonatal Nurse Practitioner

    • Role 1: 15 hours per week (substantive)
    • Role 2: 37.5 hours per week (12-month fixed term, maternity cover)
    An exciting opportunity has arisen for two experienced Advanced Neonatal Nurse Practitioner (ANNP) to join our excellent Neonatal Team here at Milton Keynes University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (MKUHFT). We care for babies born from 27 weeks gestation and take pride in providing the perfect environment in which these tiny neonates can grow, thrive, and develop.

    We work with the Thames Valley and Wessex Neonatal Operational Delivery Network and Bedford, Luton and Milton Keynes Local Maternity & Neonatal System (BLMK LMNS) to share governance strategies, develop policies and procedures and share learning from case reviews.

    The Neonatal Unit at MKUH comprise of total of 17 cots 1 intensive care cot, 5 high dependency cots and 11 special care cots. We are working with our maternity colleagues to open our transitional care unit within the coming year and are excited to watch the development of our new Women and Children's Hospital.

    We are looking to appoint an enthusiastic, motivated, flexible, hardworking, positive thinking and experienced Advanced Neonatal Nurse Practitioner to work as part of a clinical roster to assist in the delivery of high-quality and safe care for all our babies and their families. Main duties of the job Here at MKUH we have a dedicated and dynamic multidisciplinary team who maintain the highest quality and standards of care to our neonatal population, the successful applicant will join our dedicated team of Neonatologists, Advanced Neonatal Nurse Practitioners, Allied Health Professionals, Neonatal and Paediatric Community Teams and CNWL Community Paediatric Complex Needs Team to provide excellent family centred care for our patients and families.

Job description Job responsibilities Working on the Medical Tier 1 rota as part of the Medical Team the ANNP will:
    • Lead in the resuscitation of the new born, using advanced skills evaluating progress and making further decisions regarding management.
    • Lead the admission of sick and preterm infants to the Neonatal Unit, identifying individualised management plans.
    • Be responsible for initiating treatment, including drug therapy.
    • Order appropriate investigations to inform treatment plans, acting on the results appropriately.
    • Identify the need for and undertakes advanced clinical skills . e.g. UAC, UVC, Intubation, Long lines and chest drains.
    • Maintains own professional development to ensure that all clinical practice is based on current knowledge and relevant research.
    • Demonstrates competency in all aspects of the ANNP role, ensuring a record of skills is maintained and that they are deemed competent by the Lead Neonatal Clinician.
    • Demonstrates an understanding of the research methodology.
    • Disseminate research findings and identify recommendations for clinical practice.

    • NMC Register Part 1/8 or 15
    • Recognised Advanced Neonatal Nurse Practitioner qualification
    • Evidence of education at Masters level
    • Nurse prescribing and supplementary prescribing course
    • Evidence of on-going, dynamic continuing professional development within the speciality
    • Neonatal Life Support (NLS) Provider
    • Neonatal Retrieval course

    • Neonatal Life support (NLS) Instructor
    • Assessing and mentoring qualification
    • Doctorate
    • Leadership qualification
    • Good Clinical Practice (GCP) Training
    Experience Essential
    • ANNP experience in a Neonatal Unit
    • Experience of leading and managing a team of nurses
    • Previous experience of research and audit
    • Experience of implementing evidence-based practice
    • Experience of developing protocols and guidelines
    • Experience of teaching and assessing junior doctors in undertaking procedures
    Desirable
    • Previous experience of change management and problem solving
    • Experience of handling clinical incidents and complaints
    • Experience of transport of the critically ill neonate
    • Experience of critical incident review process
