- Assist the Head Chef in planning and preparing a diverse menu that aligns with the cafe's concept and customer preferences.
- Oversee food preparation and ensure all dishes are cooked to the required standard and presented attractively.
- Supervise and motivate kitchen staff, including Line chefs and kitchen porters.
- Delegate tasks, provide guidance, and conduct training to enhance team skills and performance.
- Collaborate with the Head Chef to create new and innovative dishes that reflects the businesses niche for specials.
- Ensure that menu items are cost-effective while maintaining high-quality ingredients.
- Maintain consistent food quality and taste across all dishes served in the cafe.
- Conduct regular inspections of food stations and oversee the proper storage of ingredients.
- Manage kitchen operations during service hours, ensuring a smooth workflow and timely execution of orders.
- Coordinate with other kitchen staff and front-of-house team to optimise service efficiency.
- Enforce food safety standards and hygiene practices in accordance with local regulations and best practices.
- Ensure the kitchen team follows proper safety procedures and that the kitchen area is clean and organised at all time and daily, weekly and monthly cleaning processes are followed at all times.
- Assist in monitoring kitchen inventory levels and work with the Head Chef to order supplies as needed.
- Minimise food waste and manage stock rotation to maintain fresh and high-quality ingredients.
- Bring creative ideas to the table, suggesting new recipes, techniques, and presentation styles to enhance the cafe's offerings.
- Culinary qualifications or relevant culinary training is preferred.
- Proven experience as a Sous Chef or in a similar role within a busy café or restaurant setting.
- Strong leadership and communication skills to effectively manage and motivate the kitchen team.
- Excellent knowledge of food preparation techniques, cooking methods, and plating presentations.
