    Locum Consultant Gastroenterologist with An - Leeds, United Kingdom - Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust

    We are looking for a dynamic individual to fill this new post within the Gastroenterology Department at the St Jamess University Hospital.

    The aims of this exciting post are to support and further develop the core general gastroenterology and endoscopy service.

    There will also be an opportunity to pursue specialist interest in inflammatory bowel disease, neurogastroenterology, small bowel disorders, hepatobiliary medicine, interventional endoscopy including enteroscopy, EMR/ESD and EUS/ERCP, or nutrition.

    The gastroenterology service in Leeds is recognised as being a national leader in the management of inflammatory bowel disease, nutrition, small bowel disorders, neurogastroenterology, and hepatobilliary medicine.

    The endoscopy service in is one of the largest and best equipped in the country and has well recognised leaders in interventional endoscopy including EUS/ERCP and EMR/ESD.

    There are close links with the transplant hepatology unit, the specialist surgical departments and we are supported by a renowned team of radiologists.

    You will be joining a team that has demonstrable experience in delivering high quality, innovative care to our patients across both a local and regional footprint, and with strong academic links to the University of Leeds.

    The Team is supported by a triumvirate management structure with accountable clinical leadership, supported by senior nursing and management input at both CSU and Speciality level.

    In the outpatient setting we expect the post holder to help deliver high quality care by providing general and specialist gastroenterology clinics each week.

    In addition the post holder will be expected to contribute to undergraduate and post-graduate teaching, departmental audit and governance.

    The post holder will be encouraged to facilitate and contribute to the current clinical research programmes on going in the department.

    The successful applicant should possess MRCP (or equivalent) and should be included on the Specialist Register or within 6 months of CCT at the time of interview, if currently within a training programme within the UK.

    This is a 10 PA locum appointment for a Locum Consultant Gastroenterologist.

    This post will deliver 10 PAs supporting both the inpatient and outpatient general gastroenterology service, but with the opportunity to pursue a specialist interest in IBD, neurogastroenterology, small bowel disorders, hepatobiliary medicine, interventional endoscopy including EUS/ERCP, or nutrition.

    The post will be based at St Jamess University Hospital (SJUH). We also provide outpatient services at Leeds General Infirmary and Wharfedale General Hospital.

    We provide care for all aspects of gastrointestinal disease to a large local population and receive tertiary referrals into our subspecialty services.

    Both wards have excellent, well established teams of nursing staff and we are well supported by our experienced gastrointestinal pharmacy, dietetic, and radiology colleagues.

    We provide high quality endoscopy training with JAG accreditation.

    We operate up to 8 endoscopy rooms across Leeds, the majority of which have recently been refurbished with state-of-the-art equipment.

    We provide a wide range of diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, including bowel cancer screening, ERCP, interventional EUS, advanced EMR/ESD, stenting, wireless capsule endoscopy, double balloon and spiral enteroscopy, and biliary manometry.

    Our trainees gain valuable experience in managing complex patients within our subspecialty services.

    These include a large inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) service (supported by a team of IBD nurse specialists and weekly MDT with our radiologists and IBD surgeons), enteral and parenteral nutrition (PN) (including home PN), small bowel disease, and pancreaticobiliary medicine.

    There is a strong research background to the unit with our three academic consultants (Prof. The research unit is based in the Leeds Institute of Research at St Jamess on SJUH site.

    There are existing research programmes in the molecular biology of colorectal cancer and IBD, and current clinical research projects in IBD, functional gastrointestinal disorders, and endoscopy.

    There are close links with the Clinical Research Network. Our trainees and fellows participate in recruitment for our portfolio studies, working closely with our research nurses.

    The post holder will take part in the general gastroenterology inpatient care which is organised on a rotational basis.

    To contribute to research, teaching and new developments within the department.

    The post holder will be encouraged to facilitate and contribute to the current clinical research programmes on going in the department.

    The successful applicant should possess MRCP (or equivalent) and should be included on the Specialist Register or within 6 months of CCT at the time of interview, if currently within a training programme within the UK.

    The Trust is committed to providing sustainable consultant-delivered services to ensure the quality of the patient experience. Working patterns that provide senior cover throughout 24 hours per day, seven days per week will therefore be required.

    Clinical, Academic, and Personal Skills

    Evidence of continuous career progression consistent with personal circumstances.
    Experience in training undergraduate medical students and postgraduate doctors.
    Experience in training endoscopic skills.
    Previous experience of supervising research by junior staff.
