- Strengthening the delivery of a high quality Gastroenterology Service across the hospital and community
- Forging links between Gastroenterology and Acute Medicine for Acute Patients
- Liaising and developing working policies with relevant hospital departments, local General Practitioners, Nurses and Paramedical Staff
- Developing innovative practices in clinical patient management, focusing on high quality care and emphasis on community management where appropriate
- Developing the use of nurse practitioners and paramedical staff in the hospital and community
- Developing a subspecialty interest
- Maintain close links with Gastroenterology colleagues including at the other two sites
- Provide a 7 day service with colleagues as resources allow
- Teaching and Training undergraduates as well as postgraduates
- Quality Assurance of the service and individual practice
- To share with colleagues the responsibility for teaching and training of trainees, junior medical staff, nursing staff, primary care colleagues and medical students.
- To have responsibility for ensuring active participation in continuing professional development (CPD).
- MRCP or equivalent
- You must be on the specialist register for Gastroenterology & Medicine or within 6 months of being admitted to the register for trainees, if currently in a training programme in the UK. In accordance with the regulations, all other categories of Doctors must be eligible to be on the GMC specialist register (evidence required prior to commencement) to be considered for a consultant appointment by the Advisory Appointments Committee
- Applicants must continue to hold a Licence to Practise
- Completion of Higher Medical /Gastroenterology Degree or equivalent
- Must be able to demonstrate a high level of clinical experience and competence in all aspects of Gastro Intestinal and common medical conditions
- Ability to perform Upper Endoscopy and Colonoscopy (JAG accredited)
- Shows ability to work with and lead others across professions
- Advanced Endoscopy
- Attendance at a recognised management course
- Experience of and enthusiasm for clinical teaching of postgraduate doctors and non-medical staff.
- Academic achievements/evidence of familiarity with research methods which have resulted in publications
- Training in clinical and educational supervision
- Attendance at a teaching course
- Formal qualification in teaching/education
- Knowledge of Audit principles and evidence of participation in and completion of audit projects and the implementation of outcomes
- Critical Appraisal Skills

Job overview
This post forms part of a large team of 12 Medical Gastroenterology Physicians across two main hospital inpatient sites plus outpatient services at Montagu Hospital.
The post holder will be supported by ward-based junior medical staff and will share the work with several consultant colleagues. The post holder will support a team of General Physicians who contribute to the acute general medical work on a 1 in 8 rota at BDGH.
