Your new role

Southend City Council are looking to appoint an experienced full time, permanent Commissioning Officer.


Within this position, hybrid working opportunities are available, however a flexible approach is needed as you will be required to be on site and to travel around the city.


You will need to develop commissioning plans that enable service users and carers to exercise choice and control in relation to how their needs are met and ensure value for money.


Using market intelligence, you will supply and demand data and the views of service user and their families to inform the decommissioning, redesign and commissioning of services, using coproduction principles.

You will be required to respond to national guidance and policies from central government departments when required.

As well as writing local guidance and policies for Mental Health provision to strategic partners, stakeholders and practitioners to ensure local delivery of national, ASC and CSC requirements.

What you'll need to succeed


To be successful in this position, you must have advanced knowledge and experience within the mental health sector, including the practice and processes.

As well as this, you are required to have knowledge of current national social care policies, an understanding of current NHS national, regional and local priorities.


You must also have previous experience within commissioning along with effective organisational and time management skills, with the ability to meet tight deadlines and manage priorities.
