    To further our mechanical capability on Infrastructure projects, we are looking for a Principal Fire Protection Engineer to join us.

    Your primary task will be to guide and oversee engineering works related to fire safety systems detailed design including fire protection systems, related calculations, schematics, equipment selection and specifications for the infrastructure systems including stations, tunnels, head houses and similar. Your role will be focused on the design environment, which, while based in the UK, will involve interacting day-to-day with colleagues across our global hubs. There may also be opportunities to broaden your contribution to other areas within the MEP discipline as well as client-side or site-based roles in a variety of major infrastructure settings.

    Your key responsibilities will be:

  • Supervising engineering design, analysis and production of output documents including schematics, diagrams, plans drawings, piping and instrumentation diagrams, requirements documents, specifications and similar in the fire protection discipline
  • Planning design work and deliverables together with wider MEP team to achieve the project's quality, cost and time constraints
  • Development and technical assurance of design including use of relevant software
  • Coordination of multi-disciplinary aspects of projects
  • Mentoring junior team members in design
  • Contributing to the building of relationships with clients and other stakeholders, including acting as COWI's designated representative in technical discussions within your discipline

    On top of that, you'll have:

  • A degree in a relevant engineering discipline
  • Achieved Chartered Engineer status (or equivalent)
  • Relevant experience within mechanical systems design, particularly fire protection systems, selection and specification of components
  • The ability to provide technically sound solutions independently and justify the choice of solution to our clients and other stakeholders, which may include design presentations
  • A good understanding of the equipment and fire protection systems technology and experience on specifying these systems and installations
  • Experience of working with the current codes of practice and legislation relating to fire protection systems in the UK; experience with related international codes and standards would be an advantage
  • Exposure to other mechanical systems such as control systems and hydraulic systems would be preferable
  • The ability to take responsibility for delivery of work packages under your supervision to agreed quality, cost and time constraints
  • Experience working with 3D models and BIM in an engineering capacity
  • Knowledge of CDM regulations
  • Experience of design and build projects would be beneficial which may include designer's representation on site
