    Job summary

    Applications are invited for a Clinical Fellow . The successful candidate will join a friendly, diverse and dynamic Anaesthesia and Critical Care Team at Mid Cheshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

    This post is at ST3/CT3 level and would suit applicants who have completed CT1/2 Anaesthetic training or equivalent. It is offered as a "CT3 Equivalent" and appropriate training opportunities will be provided according to the needs of the post holder.

    The successful applicant must have full registration with the GMC and continue to hold a Licence to Practice.

    The successful candidate will be based at Leighton Hospital, on the outskirts of Crewe in Cheshire. Our location benefits from a great position in the Cheshire countryside, surrounded by green fields and close to many charming small towns and villages. The Peak District and North Wales are within easy reach, yet there are also good transport connections to Manchester, Liverpool, Birmingham and London.

    Main duties of the job

    Following a period of induction and assessment the post-holders main clinical duties will include theatre, critical care and obstetrics. In addition, following assessment, the successful candidates will participate on the out-of-hours / emergency cover rota which complies with the working time directive. This post comprise of a full shift working pattern

    Mid Cheshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (MCHFT) provides good quality, safe and effective healthcare to the people of Cheshire and beyond. The Trust, which manages Leighton Hospital in Crewe, Victoria Infirmary in Northwich, and Elmhurst Intermediate Care Centre in Winsford, was established as an NHS Trust in April 1991 and became a Foundation Trust in April 2008.

    Job responsibilities

    During job planned sessions, the post-holder will provide anaesthetic cover for operating lists, emergency theatre, Critical Care or obstetrics as specified on the weekly rota or as otherwise requested by the lead Consultant or their deputy.

    The post-holder will cover lists alone or with a Consultant Anaesthetist. If working with a Consultant, the post-holder will be supervised by, and follow the instructions of the Consultant. If working alone, the post-holder will seek the guidance of the duty Consultant when clinically indicated. The post-holder may also cover lists alongside other anaesthetic doctors, including trainees.

    The post-holder may be required to provide cover for resuscitation, critical care or obstetric analgesia and anaesthesia depending on the needs of the sub-division, and it is expected that they take account of any relevant protocols or guidelines issued within the sub-divisions when arriving at clinical decisions.

    This post is offered as a CT3 Equivalent post, and sessions in areas such as perioperative medicine and chronic pain can be accommodated according to the training needs of the individual. A 3-month block of Critical Care Medicine can be provided for those who would require this.

    Essential

  • Full Registration with the GMC and a Licence to Practise.

  • FRCA or equivalent Primary FRCA 1 year experience in the NHS

  • Completion of Core Anaesthetic Training (CT1-2) or equivalent
  • Basic competencies in Critical Care medicine and Obstetric Anaesthesia
  • Life support course
