    Health Care Support Worker – Band 3

    The role of Health Care Support Worker is a key and valued part of our in-patient services – assisting and supporting our Nursing Provision. This value has recently been reflected by increasing the band from a band 2 to a band 3 making the proposition even more attractive.

    We are looking to recruit personable, flexible and motivated Health Care Assistants to support with the delivery of care to our patients. You should be motivated and forward thinking in your approach and possess excellent communication and inter-personal skills. A degree of flexibility in approach is required along with a willingness to learn whilst working in a busy and challenging environment. You will be caring and attentive with the skills to build strong and trusting relationships with people. It is also important that you work well in a team as you will work alongside other healthcare assistants, qualified nurses and rest of the MDT.

    Detailed job description and main responsibilities

  • To assist in basic care and assessment of the patient as support to, and under the supervision of, a registered nurse/senior support staff.
  • To follow individualised care and therapeutic programmes for patients under the instruction of the nursing staff/senior support staff.
  • To provide support to patients with their personal care.
  • To be informed and aware of the patients clinical condition and individual circumstances to ensure the care and comfort of clients.
  • To promote communications and act as an advocate for patients who have experienced difficulty in communicating.
  • To contribute to the patients plan of treatment by communicating any observations of patients behaviours to the nurse-in-charge during periods of duty.
  • To work with all members of the multi-disciplinary team to promote quality care.
  • Work in collaboration with the patient, involving them at all times with their care.
  • To ensure, by attitude, approach and response, the continuation of good working relationships between staff and patients within the unit.
  • To support the qualified staff in the admission and discharge procedure. To ensure the relevant policies in respect of patients property and valuables are maintained. To support staff in promoting recreation/leisure amongst patients.
  • To contribute to the promotion of patients education and well-being.
  • To monitor and encourage and record patients in their consumption of food and drink.
  • Accompany appropriate patients off site as and when required.
  • To undertake the relevant management of aggression training such as or MAPA.
  • To assist in the maintenance of a safe environment.
  • To participate in the observation of patients at risk.
  • To promote and maintain beneficial relationships between relatives/patients and carers in liaison with other appropriate agencies.
  • To participate in all projects and research schemes to improve the quality of the patient's life.
  • To be aware of and comply with Health & Safety, Fire Regulations and all other policies laid down by Black Country Partnership NHS Foundation Trust.
  • To attend mandatory courses/lectures/in-house training, as required.
  • To develop skills and knowledge in the area of mental health care by undertaking mandatory and additional training
  • Infection prevention & control is everybody's responsibility, it is a requirement for all Trust staff to comply with all trust infection control policies and procedures.
