    Principal Consultant - Head of Quantitative Pharmacology

    Job Role: Principal Consultant – Head of Quantitative Pharmacology

    Physiomics plc (AIM: PYC) at its core is a quantitative pharmacology and data science consultancy supporting the development of new therapeutics. From discovery through to the clinic, we support our clients derive insights from both their R&D and external data sources to enable smarter design of R&D programmes - accelerating and de-risking drug development.

    Physiomics has a high-profile brand and an established customer base of clients in the UK, Europe and North America, ranging from emerging biopharma to top-tier pharma. We have now completed over 100 projects and have modelled over 125 targets & drugs. Previous clients include, but not limited to, Merck KGaA, Astellas, Servier, Bicycle Therapeutics, Arjuna Therapeutics, Numab Therapeutics and Cancer Research UK.

    Physiomics has ambitious growth plans and are looking to scale the business as well as drive operational excellence. The primary focus of this growth will be around the core Modelling service business, expanding into new therapeutic areas, modalities, and geographies. The company is also looking to build adjacent service arms, initially around Biometrics, as well as continue its development of personalised medicine tools.

    The Role:

    Physiomics is seeking an ambitious technical leader to work closely with the CEO and Head of Business Development to grow the core modelling service business and drive operational excellence. This person will bring extensive experience working within Biopharma, applying mathematical and statistical modelling to support new drug development.

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Reporting to the CEO, this will be a senior position within Physiomics and will play a pivotal role in driving growth and operational excellence across the consulting business.
    • They will take responsibility for the Modelling service-line, working closely with the CEO, Head of Business Development and Board around setting and delivering on its overall strategic direction.
    • They will have responsibility for the operational governance and oversight of the Modelling service-line, as well as related go-to-market activities.
    • They will lead a team of consultants to deliver Modelling consultancy services, providing technical and operational oversight of projects, whilst driving operational excellence.
    • Operational responsibilities include: Ensure effective resourcing and programme management of projects. Support Project Leads with project management and client management activities. Line management of consulting team, including performance management and training. Provide support around delivery of projects when required.
    • This role will work closely with the Head of Business Development around developing and delivering on Modelling service-line BD & Marketing strategy.
    • Business development responsibilities include: Technical lead in client discussions relating to the Modelling services. Lead the solutioning & scoping of new consultancy projects and support proposal development. Attend BD events and scientific conferences to support the generation of new leads, management of client relationships and derive market insights. Identification and development of new service offerings, including creation of technical marketing content and thought leadership materials.
    • It is anticipated that this role will focus approximately 50% towards business development and strategy, and 50% chargeable to clients primarily through operations oversight of Modelling team.

    Qualifications, Experience and Behaviours:

    Qualifications

    • PhD in a subject where mathematical/statistical modelling of biology/pharmacology was conducted
    • PhD in one of the following: Quantitative System Pharmacology, Pharmacometrics, Applied Mathematics

    Experience

    • >10 years' experience providing mathematical modelling in support of drug development, either as a service, or within a biopharma company
    • >5 years' experience actively working with external stakeholders, from both a client management and new business solutioning perspective
    • Proven track record of managing technical / scientific teams in delivery of multiple projects
    • Strong scientific knowledge
    • Strong oral and written communication skills
    • Experience providing QSP and PK/PD modelling consultancy services
    • Experience across preclinical and clinical research, with a solid understanding of the regulatory requirements
    • Experience selling mathematical modelling services into Biopharma
    • Experience managing technical and scientific focused consultancy teams
    • Experience in developing and delivering on operational strategy
    • Experience in project and programme management in consultancy service delivery
    • Strong understanding of oncology drug development
