    Job summary

    We are looking for an enthusiastic and reliable full time receptionist/adminstrator to join our friendly team.

    This role is both challenging and rewarding. Applicants must have excellent communication and organisational skills, and be able to work under pressure in a patient facing environment.

    Candidates must be flexible as additional hours may be required to cover annual leave for other members of the team.

    Main duties of the job

    The role will require an ability to receive, assist and direct patients inaccessing the appropriate service or healthcare professional in a courteous,efficient and effective way.

    We currently use a clinical system called Vision but this will shortly be changing to SystmOne. Knowledge of this system is not essential as full training will be given.

    About us

    We are a small but extremely busy practice in the heart of Royston.

    We have a clinical team of 3 GP partners, 2 nurses and a phlebotomist. You will also be fully supported by 8 members of the admin/reception team.

    ACCOUNTABLETO Doctors and Practice Manager

    JOBSUMMARY To assist in the efficient running of the reception area in a busy, twopartner practice in Royston.

    PRINCIPALRESPONSIBILITIES

    1To receive and direct patients and other professionals in a courteous andefficient manner.

    2To operate the telephone system

    3To make appointments on the computerized system.

    4To deal with enquiries from patients and other professionals.

    5To process computerized repeat prescriptions in the prescribed manner.

    6To record messages and requests for home visits on the computer in theprescribed manner.

    7To open and process mail

    8To file correspondence and medical records and to extract same as appropriate.

    9To generate and issue standard computerized letters.

    10To input and extract data from the computerized medical system

    11Photocopying documents

    12To process patient hospital referrals on an online booking system

    13To cover for absent colleagues

    14Liaise with patients, hospitals and chemists as requested by the Gps

    15Supporting and assisting the Doctors during surgery times as required

    16Liaising with secondary care providers and arranging transport as necessary.

    17liaise with attached staff, including health visitors, district nurses,midwives, counsellors etc

    18Any other task required by the Gp or practice manager.

    19Be able to send and receive emails.

    Dutiescould possibly be amended due to the changing needs of the Practice and NHShealthcare.

    Essential

  • Keyboard Skills
  • Experience of using Microsoft Excel
  • Experience of Microsoft Word
  • Experience of using Microsoft Outlook for email
  • Previous clerical experience
  • Good Communicator

  • Reliable/Good attendance record
  • Ability to work on own initiative and as part of a team
  • Ability to work with attention to detail and accuracy

  • Qualifications

    Essential

  • 4 GCSEs at grade C or above including English or 3 years experience in an office environment
  • Desirable

  • Previous experience of working with the public in a healthcare environment.
  • Scanning and document imaging, training will be given
