As our
Student Counsellor,
you
will to deliver a quality cross-college, professional, impartial & confidential counselling service to students in accordance with the BACP Ethical Framework and Hull College Group procedures, working with a wide range of issues including abuse, bereavement, mental health & wellbeing, personal stress, relationships etc.

Responsibilities of our
Student Counsellor:


  • To provide an effective crosscollege professional, impartial and confidential counselling service to students, contributing to the wellbeing and safeguarding of the college community.
  • To contribute to counselling service activities as required including managing client referrals and a waiting list, planning, recording and supporting a caseload of clients, and providing qualitative and quantitative information for service statistics and reports.
  • To work with the Counselling Team Leader and Student Services Manager to contribute to the evaluation and development of the service to ensure a quality service is provided at all times that is responsive to the needs of the clients.
  • To attend counselling supervision following BACP guidelines to ensure client wellbeing and the continuing selfdevelopment of the practitioner.
  • To proactively contribute in onetoone, group and crosscollege departmental activities that support the wellbeing of staff and learners, for example this may include workshop delivery, reflective practice meetings, or relaxation, etc.
  • To network and liaise with key internal colleagues to ensure the counselling service is accessible and responsive to the needs of clients, including regular links with Academic staff, Student Services staff, SSO's, Safeguarding officers, Additional Learner Support etc.
  • To establish links and external options to ensure clients are referred for appropriate support when necessary.
  • To contribute to the development of learners spiritual, moral, social and cultural development (SMSC) underpinned by the Every Child Matters Outcomes Framework
  • To support and champion the college's commitment to equality and diversity through appropriate activities and events.

What we're looking for in our
Student Counsellor:

  • Qualification in Counselling at Diploma Level
  • Level 2 IT or equivalent qualification. In particular Word Processing, Word, Excel, etc.
  • GSCE English & Maths Grade C or equivalent
  • Significant understanding and experience of providing a professional counselling service, preferably in an educational environment with young people and/or adults
  • Accurate record keeping and data inputting and monitoring
  • Confident, approachable and friendly disposition with strong interpersonal skills
