    Review, Support, and Information Specialist Therapeutic Radiographer - London, United Kingdom - University College London Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust

    Job summary

    This role offers a rare and exciting opportunity to play a lead role in the radiotherapy/proton beam therapy review and support and information teams at UCLH. The post holder will work across the photon and proton departments. The post holder will lead the Radiotherapy Review, Support and Information service provided for patients to support them both physically and psychologically throughout their radiotherapy journey . They will be required to manage a team of radiographers nurses and support workers providing this service for patients. Any proton beam therapy training required relating to managing side effects of this treatment, how the national service will operate and other required underpinning knowledge will be provided. Training for non-medical prescribing and on treatment review can be supported if required.

    The photon department is equipped with Varian TrueBeam systems with advanced imaging packages and 6DoF couches. The department has a comprehensive brachytherapy suite and a Gulmay skin unit. UCLH is one of only two NHS sites delivering proton beam therapy across the NHS. The proton beam therapy (PBT) department is equipped with Varian ProBeam gantries with advanced imaging packages and robotic couches. Both departments have a dedicated CT scanner and the PBT department also has a dedicated MRI scanner.

    Main duties of the job

    This is an autonomous role where the post holder is expected to manage their own case-load and is accountable for their own professional actions and the actions of more junior staff members. They will provide professional clinical leadership leading on the review, support and information service for patients and be an integral part of the oncology team.

    They will be recognised and accessible as an expert in patient review, support and information promoting best practice, giving expert advice to patients and carers, and disseminating knowledge to the profession and wider multi discipline team.

    The post holder will be responsible for ensuring a patient centred service is maintained, working in close liaison with medical and nursing staff and other disciplines as appropriate. drawing on expert knowledge and experience to intervene and problem solve where necessary. They will also be responsible for identifying and setting standards. They will ensure that staff are kept up to date with current and ongoing developments. They will ensure national and trust guidelines and directives are implemented and monitored.

    They will develop policies and protocols and will play an active role in research and in exploring and developing new ways of working to achieve the tri-fold goal of the service: improving quality of radiotherapy treatment, improving patient care, and improving staff satisfaction.

    Job description

    Job responsibilities

    The department delivers radiotherapy services for a broad spectrum of cancers comprising of common cancers as well as specialist treatments including brachytherapy, molecular radiotherapy and total body irradiation. The focus for the PBT department is predominantly head and neck, brain and sarcoma treatment sites.

    Knowledge & Qualifications

    Essential

  • BSc in therapeutic radiography or equivalent formal qualification and HCPC registration
  • Health Profession Council (HPC) registration as a therapy radiographer.
  • Post graduate courses in management/leadership or other relevant clinical subject.
  • Clinical experience in planning and dosimetry.
  • Desirable

  • PGc Non-medical Prescribing Independent/Supplementary
  • Experience

    Essential

  • Significant postgraduate experience with specialist training and knowledge.
  • Practical experience in planning and delivering a wide range of radiotherapy techniques.
