Job Description:


The Communications and Engagement Officer supports the Communications and Engagement Team Leader to reduce barriers to screening and help reduce health inequalities for our service users.


We are very keen to speak with recently graduated marketing professionals, or individuals with some commercial communications experience - this is a great opportunity to gain your first role within marketing - and it's in an industry that is genuinely helping real people around the UK.

NEC Care, part of the NEC Health division, delivers the national diabetic eye screening programme.

The Surrey Diabetic Eye Screening Programme (DESP) provides retinal screening clinics and image grading to people with diabetes across the County of Surrey - our main office is based in Farnham.

We are commissioned by NHS England and NHS Improvement (NHSE&I) to provide retinal screening on behalf of the NHS and our service is compliant with the National Service Framework (NSF) and National Screening Committee (NSC) guidance, standards, and objectives.


By focusing on the needs of the patient we create bespoke solutions to meet the demands of those we serve.

We tailor all service provision according to the locality and not to a set specification. Our service provision is designed to meet and where possible exceed national and local standards and objectives.

As the Communications and Engagement Officer you will be involved in communications, promotions and building relationships with local stakeholders.

You will drive the communications with GP practices, healthcare professionals, community groups and charities to promote diabetic eye screening within vulnerable and hard to reach communities.

You will have the full support of our team lead in this - so don't worry if it would be your first time driving these types of Comms.

We want to increase the understanding of the importance of screening with our service users and wider communities and most importantly - we need to increase uptake of appointments; particularly for those who frequently do not attend.

This role is a really integral one - as it makes sure our Service Users Voices are being heard


What you'll be doing:


  • Use promotional activities to improve knowledge and uptake of Diabetic Eye Screening Programmes particularly with vulnerable and hard to reach communities.
  • Improve interaction with all communities on Social Media Platforms
  • Share reports and findings with the wider engagement team in monthly meetings.
  • Showcase the Engagement Projects and results at regular Programme Meetings with the Diabetic Eye Screening Programme Team.
  • Work with Programme Managers to implement solutions to protect individuals who have fears around attending their eye screening appointments
  • Work with our Administration teams to ensure all clinics are being fully utilised especially in higher demand areas

Qualifications:


  • Excellent Communication Experience, including face to face, remote and direct (This could be through theoretical learning, or transferable from Customer Service Roles.
  • Comfortable with Data Analysis particularly around the success of campaigns
  • IT Skills and Knowledge particularly with Excel
  • Ability to work under your own initiative and priorities tasks using problem solving skills.
  • Comfortable and Professional with public speaking or presentations.
  • A full driving licence and own transport to travel where needed is necessary due to the equipment required for events your own vehicle will be necessary
  • Able to deal with members of the public in a calm, sensitive and reassuring way.

Desirable:


  • Experience of using social media in a commercial setting, running promotional events and generating publicity materials.
