Description

The West Hertfordshire Medical Examiners Service comprises of Medical Examiners (MEs) and Medical Examiner Officers (MEOs) who are trained in the legal and clinical elements of death certification processes.

The overarching purpose of the National Medical Examiner service is to:

  • Provide greater safeguards for the public by ensuring proper scrutiny of all noncoronial deaths.
  • Ensure appropriate referrals to the coronial system.
  • Provide a better service for the bereaved to ensure they can raise any concerns to a doctor not involved in the care of the deceased.
  • Improve the quality of both death certification and mortality data.

There has never been a more exciting time to join West Hertfordshire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust Major redevelopment works are planned as part of the New Hospital Programme.

These will be most dramatic at Watford General Hospital where up to 90% of buildings will be new.

The trust has recently gained 'teaching hospital' status which reflects the dedicated work of many teams and individuals who have set the standard for delivering high quality training, learning and education at all levels of the workforce.

We encourage and welcome people with disabilities. If you need help, please ask.

The post holder will be required to undertake data analysis, including complex information relating to causes of deaths, clinical governance, and trends, and report internally to the Lead ME (monthly) and to the Regional and National Medical Examiner Teams (quarterly.)

The Lead MEO is accountable for the effective day to day management and coordination of all aspects of the service, from motivating and managing staff and rotas, to optimising efficiency and performance.

Further support will also be offered with regular supervision and networking opportunities with other Medical Examiner Officers through the Regional Medical Examiner Office.
