    Job summary

    We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced and enthusiastic neonatal nurse to lead our team at Frimley Park Neonatal unit. You would be working closely with the neonatal Matron and practice development team to support our staff to deliver the highest standard of neonatal care.

    The Neonatal Unit at Frimley Park is a Local Neonatal Unit made up of 2 Intensive Care, 5 High Dependency and 8 Special Care cots. The unit cares for babies over 27 weeks gestation and stabilises any baby under that gestation, to be transferred to a tertiary hospital/ NICU.

    Our team aspires to provide high quality and evidence based; clinical, developmental and family integrated care in order to ensure the best outcomes for our babies and their families.

    Main duties of the job

    We are actively involved in the Kent Surrey and Sussex operational delivery network and participate in several work groups to standardise and improve care. We also have a close working relationship with the Neonatal Unit at Wexham Park Hospital and are aiming to align policies and procedures cross site to facilitate this. We are committed to family integrated care and are working toward achieving Baby Friendly Initiative stage two accreditation. We actively encourage breastfeeding and parent involvement.

    Job description

    Job responsibilities

    The post-holder is responsible for the overall management of the department both clinically and operationally 24 hours a day. Working collaboratively with other senior nurses and practitioners within the Trust ensuring that available resources are optimised to achieve strategic changes and improvements in services and operational systems within existing constraints.

    To provide strong clinical leadership within the unit, empowering others in the team to ensure that patient care delivery is evidence-based, family integrated and is compliant with the quality standards determined by the Trust.

    Experience

    Essential

  • oRelevant experience in working in neonatal service.
  • oAct as an advocate for the babies, parents and their families and staff.
  • oAble to manage difficult situations effectively and to work under pressure.
  • oAble to prioritise and meet deadlines, working in an organised way with excellent time management skills.
  • oProven teaching and assessing skills.
  • oEffective negotiation skills.
  • Desirable

  • oIT Literate
  • oNLS
  • Qualifications

    Essential

  • oRegistered Nurse/Midwife
  • oDegree in Nursing or other relevant field or can demonstrate experience of working to this level.
  • oQualified in Speciality

  • oEvidence of continuing education & professional development
  • oMentorship course or equivalent
  • Desirable

  • oManagement course or qualification
  • oWorking towards or holds Masters degree
