    Job summary

    We are looking for an enthusiastic Senior CAMHS Practitioner to join our thriving and innovative multi-disciplinary service with our CAMHS Adolescent Mental Health team., based in Luton.

    We are part of ELFT (East London Foundation Trust), which includes five CAMHS services across East London, Bedfordshire and Luton. Luton CAMHS is a busy team working to four discrete child and adolescent mental health pathways: emotional & behavioural difficulties in childhood and adolescence, adolescent mental health/crisis care, neurodevelopmental child & adolescent care and targeted CAMHS interventions.

    Main duties of the job

    This post will provide a specialist individual and group based arts therapy assessment and treatment within CAMHS to young people and their families alongside generic CAMHS MDT practice. This is a community-based post, located within the Dunstable Emotional & Behavioural Team in Bedfordshire CAMHS offering flexible, evidence-based episodes of care, assessments and treatments to a wide variety of clinical presentations. The post holder will directly contribute to the positive working environment within the multi-disciplinary team.

    You will be working in a community based team delivering a service to children, young people and their families in a supportive and lively multidisciplinary team, where differences in training and theoretical standpoints are respected and valued. You will have the opportunity to play a significant role in the delivery of a modernized and comprehensive service, and to contribute to our team's ability to continue offering an excellent service to all our stakeholders.

    Education/ Qualification/ Training

    Essential

  • oDegree in relevant area
  • oMA (or equivalent) in either Art Therapy, Music Therapy, Dramatherapy or Dance & Movement Therapy
  • oFor Art therapists/Art Psychotherapists, Music Therapists & Dramatherapists - Registration with the HCPC
  • oFor Dance Movement Psychotherapists - Registration with ADMP UK or UKCP
  • Desirable

  • oMembership of Arts Therapies Professional Body
  • oClinical Supervision Training
  • oFurther training in an area of psychological practice relevant to the post's clinical area
  • Experience

    Essential

  • oPost qualification experience as an Arts Therapist working with the client group that this post is linked to in both individual and group work
  • oExperience of working with Service Users with challenging behaviour
  • oSupervision of a trainee Arts Therapist
  • oExperience of assessing service users and making recommendations to a Multi-disciplinary team
  • Desirable

  • oExperience of providing teaching and training sessions regarding Arts Therapies to a variety of audiences
  • oExperience of working as an Arts therapist in a Multi-disciplinary team
  • oExperience of providing Arts Therapies as part of research or clinical trial
  • oExperience of providing Arts Therapies in both acute and community settings
  • oExperience of project management and evaluation supporting service development
  • oExperience of supervision and support of Arts in Health projects
  • oExperience of running reflective practice sessions for other disciplines Nursing, Occupational Therapy
  • Skills and Abilities

    Essential

  • oHigh standard of verbal communication skills including the ability to provide concise, clear and relevant feedback to a ward round or MDT meeting
  • oComputer literacy and a high standard of written communication skills including the ability to produce clear reports detailing progress of therapy, selecting relevant information from sessions and presenting this without bias
  • oDeveloped interpersonal skills enabling therapeutic alliances to be developed and maintained with clients
  • oAbility to treat Service Users with respect and dignity at all times, adopting a culturally sensitive approach which considers the whole person
  • oAbility to apply specialist skills in individual and group based Arts Therapies assessments and interventions.
  • oAbility to work both independently and a part of a MDT team
  • oAbility to assess and manage frequent distressing clinical interactions with clients who have serious mental health problems
  • oAbility to assess and manage exposure to potential hazards including frequent verbal aggression and risk of physical aggression in hospital setting whilst ensuring safety of self, client and members of the public.

  • oAbility to adapt to physical environment when dedicated therapy rooms are not available transporting materials, equipment etc and willingness to move furniture to set up a room (within Health and Safety parameters)
  • oPhysical skills to facilitate a wide range of activities both on a one-to-one and group basis, including using equipment as required
  • oMental and emotional effort required to undertake intense concentration for clinical interventions on both a one-to-one and group basis
  • oActive involvement in ongoing professional and team development and a commitment to developing other team members
  • oEmotional effort: Dealing with families in breakdown; experiencing trauma and abuse; occasional patient complaints; conveying of unwelcome news
