Job description:


  • The role of the Commercial Support Officer will provide you with an invaluable insight into how the Commercial team supports the wider BEIS family to deliver critical services to the public.
  • We are seeking a strong communicator and an enthusiastic team mate, who can think on their feet to support the delivery of Commercial objectives.
  • Applicants with prior experience in commercial activities are welcome to apply, though previous experience is not essential.
  • You will receive an allocation of 20% off the job learning time to complete the apprenticeship programme and will be a member of the BEIS Apprentice Network, which hosts regular events, networking, and further development opportunities.

Person specification:


  • Who are we looking for?
  • The successful applicants will be responsible for supporting commercial activity across Corporate Services, covering areas such as; Commercial, Operations, Finance, Communications, Digital, and HR.
  • The successful applicants will report to BEIS Corporate Commercial Leads on various projects and work packages.
  • You will support a diverse range of policy stakeholders with tasks, such as:
  • The delivery of market engagement sessions;
  • Prioritisation requirements;
  • Assist in undertaking procurements;
  • Advising and supporting operational Contract Managers.


The successful applicants will be required to support and maintain the Commercial Activity Log (Pipeline) for our up-and-coming projects and our Contracts Agreement Register.


  • To ensure the information held is current and strategically focussed covering a rolling period of the next 6 to 12 months.
  • You will have regular engagement with our Shared Services Providers. There will be other critical management information data that drives Central Commercial practices, that will need to be maintained.
  • This role is stretching and varied, with a key focus on building and maintaining relationships with complex partner groups. A background in Commercial is not crucial although some knowledge or a willingness to upskill is desirable.
  • These posts allow for payment of the CIPS Level 1 allowance for holders of the CIPS Foundation stage or Level 4 Commercial Procurement and Supply qualification.
  • The job holders will need to be well organised and able to prioritise effectively, work independently and be required to work closely with policy teams across the Department.
