Birmingham Hospice is the leading provider of adult palliative care in the region. We care for people in their own homes, in the community, at our Living Well Centres and in our Inpatient Units. We have two sites, one in Selly Park and one in Erdington, where this role is predominantly based.

This is an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated Pharmacy Technician who has a passion for working with patients. You will have a unique opportunity to provide a high-quality medicine management service in our Inpatient Unit at our Erdington site. The hospice has an established Pharmacy Team across our two sites, comprising of Clinical Pharmacists and Medicines Management Technicians, who will offer peer support and training.

You will be delivering medicines management initiatives within the organisation, including, medicines reconciliation, self-medication and technician led discharge counselling within the hospice. You will be the key contact between the hospice and our SLA pharmacy to ensure safe and timely provision of medication.

We are looking for an experienced, patient-focussed technician with a proven track record in delivering high quality medicines management. The ideal candidate will have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and be flexible as part of a multi-disciplinary team to provide high-quality care. Whilst part of a team you will be expected to demonstrate initiative, and will have the opportunity to work independently.

You may be required to work at our other site in Selly Park from time to time.

You should be a qualified Pharmacy Technician.
You will have current registration with the General Pharmaceutical Council.
You will have experience of working as a medicines management technician, or as a Pharmacy Technician in a similar role.

Our pharmacy technicians work on the wards full-time, ensuring all the necessary drugs are available, and that we have an accurate record of what drugs patients are taking.

Speaking about her role, Carla McCann, Pharmacy Technician, said: "When a patient comes to us, they might have quite a complicated drug history, so we can straighten that out and find out what people are taking, and what is still needed.

"I came here from a hospital pharmacy and the big difference is the time we get to speak to patients and also to each other. I can have conversations with doctors and nurses about individual patients and how they are getting on, which there just isn't time to do in hospital."
