    Job Introduction Opportunities are available for two Engineers within the DSO Primary System Modelling and Analysis team.

    The preference is for one role to be based at Tipton or Castle Donington and one at Bristol or Cardiff.

    The Primary System Modelling and Analysis team are responsible for maintaining NGED's offline primary system models and power system software, developing engineering tooling, improving analysis techniques and compiling technical aspects of various submissions.

    The successful candidate will join an existing team of engineers, data analysts and programmers distributed across all four licence areas.

    As part of our hybrid working approach this role offers a mix of office and home working.

    Hybrid working can only be considered once your initial training is complete and subject to business need * Depending on experience, you may initially be appointed at a lower salary until all relevant courses and training are complete.

    Evidence of any qualification certificates will be required prior to appointment If you are offered a position, you will be required to successfully complete a basic DBS check that shows any unspent convictions or conditional cautions.

    Main Responsibilities Maintenance and development of offline primary system models, including modelling of network reinforcements, customer connections and asset replacements.

    Maintenance and development of supporting data for power system modelling. This includes the impedance and ratings of plant and mains, demand data and wider equivalent models. Driving migration to modern planning and analysis tools such as PSSE, IPSA and PowerFactory.

    Development of internal modelling and analysis capability including use of scenario based planning, curtailment estimation, energy forecasting and security compliance assessment.

    Tool development and operation for the production of DUoS charges and Line Loss Factor data in association with Income team.

    Tool development and operation for manipulating power and energy data to inform network models (e.g. Load Survey). Provision of data for, and liaison with, National Grid Electricity Transmission and the National Energy System Operator, as required by the Grid Code (e.g. B/07, Week 24/50). Provision of technical data for, and liaison with, the DSO Statement of Works team, as required by Connection & Use of System Code (e.g. Project Progressions, Modification Applications). Provision and analysis of technical data, between the Company and other DNOs, IDNOs and distribution customers, as required by Distribution Code (e.g. EREC G111). Provision of technical data for inclusion in regulatory reports (e.g. RRP Load Index and Long Term Development Statement). Collaboration with the National Energy System Operator and other DNOs under Regional Development Programmes. Work closely with the secondary network modelling team to drive integration between primary and secondary network modelling.

    Liaise with internal model users, such as Primary Network Design and other DSO teams, to ensure that models are up-to-date, fit for purpose and to provide modelling advice.

    Proactively working with internal data owners and maintainers to continually improve data quality, accuracy and system integration. Identify opportunities for improvement in performance and implement or recommend change. Represent NGED on specialist groups or national working groups, as required. Provide a supportive environment for trainees and new starters, acting as a mentor and directing work as appropriate.

    The Ideal Candidate You should be self-motivated and demonstrate a clear knowledge of the principles and issues associated with primary network design and modelling.

    The ability to present information in a clear and reasoned way, together with an open yet analytical approach to problem solving, and good computer skills are essential to the role.

    The successful candidate will be process driven, have a focus on data quality and an 'automate-first' approach to drive business efficiency.

    Prior experience with power system software such as PSS Sincal, PSSE, IPSA or PowerFactory is preferable. Experience with scripting languages, particularly Python, would be advantageous. Data set interrogation and manipulation using SQL, Microsoft Access, Microsoft Excel or Pandas would be useful. You must be reliable, well organised, and able to work effectively as part of a distributed team. Excellent IT skills are essential and experience with NGED internal systems (e.g. Electric Office, EMU, PowerOn, CROWN, E5 and GitLab) is desirable, although training will be given on the applications used. An Electrical Engineering degree or equivalent qualification is desirable.
