    Aboutthe Team

    Weare looking to recruit a Policy Adviser – Coins andCash which sits within the Fiscal Group of the Debtand ReservesManagement.

    FiscalGroup works on a wide-ranging set of issues at the heart of theTreasury's objectives and of fiscal events such as Budgets. We areresponsible for ensuring the sustainability of the government'sfinances, overseeing its macroeconomic policy framework, and stableand efficient financing of governmentliabilities.

    TheDebt and Reserves Management teammanages key financial assets and liabilities on the public sectorbalance sheet – using analysis, oversight and our partner links toBank of England, the Debt Management Office, National Savings &Investments and the RoyalMint.

    About theJob

    In this role, youwill:

    • Lead on circulating coin mattersworking with the Royal Mint.
    • Support onwholesale cash policy, including implementing aspects of theFinancial Services and Markets Act.
    • Become asubject matter expert in coin policy and the wider wholesale cashsystem, working with others who are experts in the field, toprovide evidence-based information toministers.
    • Build and maintain positiverelationships with our partners, including colleagues across theCivil Service and public sector and with organisations from theprivate sector.
    • Act as a key point of contactfor your policy area, dealing with any problems or queries as theyarise.

    Greatpolicy making is about understanding what needs to change, whatproblems need to be solved and supporting Ministers to arrive atthe best solution to deliver the change. Policy also means workingout how we are going to make the changes or solve the problems, andthen delivering on those plans. To do all this, we need to buildrelationships with Ministers, Civil Service colleagues, groups withexpertise and thepublic.

    To work on policy as a PolicyAdviser, you will need to demonstrate a range of skills, includingstrong problem-solving skills, the ability to clearly explain yourthinking both in writing and in person, and the drive to overcomechallenges and see your ideas through into action anddelivery.

    You don'tneed to be a policy professional or have any specificqualifications to apply to work as a Policy Adviser at HM Treasury.We are looking for people who have the right set of skills for therole, who demonstrate the values of our organisation, and who aremotivated to come and work with us on a range of issues that are atthe heart of how we spend money and deliver publicservices.
