    About Us

G4S Oakhill Secure Training Centre (STC) cares for children aged 12 to 18 years old who have been remanded or sentenced to periods of detention. The children in our care can be vulnerable and challenging, with a wide range of complex social and emotional needs. This is an environment that calls for high standards of social care and service delivery to provide a secure and stable environment for children to develop their life skills and address their previous behaviours. We aim to support change and learning.

We strive to help every child feel safe, giving them an opportunity to heal from trauma and feel supported in developing a more positive identity. We will ensure our children have equal access and opportunity for change and are celebrated for their strengths. We want the children in our care to leave better equipped for life emotionally, mentally, physically, and socially. Our hope is that they will go on to make decisions and life choices that will lead to increasingly positive and productive lives. We aim to support the constructive resettlement and transition of our children, whether returning to the community or moving to other custodial settings. We are committed to working in partnership with them and their families, significant others and wider community organisations, to develop a quality regime at the centre.

    About the Role

We have a number of new opportunities available for experienced Residential Managers

For this pivotal role, we are looking for dedicated Residential Managers (RMs) to join our team. You may already have Residential Manager experience within a custodial environment or within a Children's Home setting and are seeking a new challenge or you are ready for that next step in your career.

As a Residential Manager, you will be responsible for the daily management of a shift, providing advice and support to Secure Care Officers to promote the safeguarding of Children's welfare and ensure that a stable and secure environment is provided for all children in order to maintain good order and discipline of the establishment.

In addition, it is crucial that this role supports and mentors a team of Secure Care Officers whilst offering hands on coaching and motivation, so line management experience and a passion for developing others is key.

Some of the key responsibilities of the role are:

    • Coach, support and develop their team to maximise performance and ensure high standards of care are provided to the children in our care.
    • Support the centre to deliver the Company values, ethical standards and inclusion commitments, all whilst ensuring that legislation, contractual and inspection framework requirements are met.
    • Proactively plan each shift, including activities and visits, in order to positively manage children's behaviour. Ensure effective and clear information and handovers with your team members so that effective behaviour management, security and safety are maintained.
    • Participate in the Admission and assessment process of children, paying regard to vulnerability and safety.
    • Demonstrate the value of education and care to children; through pro-social modelling and development of the team to change behaviours.
    • Form trusting, respectful and professional relationships with children, in order that they respond and react appropriately to information and guidance.
    • Ensure that all relevant paperwork is completed to a high standard, within required timescales and communicated effectively, in order to comply with the Contract and Company Policies and Procedures.
    • Facilitate group and individual offending behaviour programmes, complying with training plans and within contractual compliance, in order to reduce offending.
    • Liaise effectively and professionally with internal and external agencies, parents and carers, in order to maximise partnership working and positive outcomes for children.
    • Assist in the promotion of creating a positive Health & Safety culture across the site leading by example.
    • G4S Care and Rehabilitation Services is committed to safeguarding and promoting the wellbeing of children and adults at risk and each employee is expected to support these goals.

    The Ideal Candidate:

    About you

With at least 2 years operational experience within a Custodial or Childrens Home environment, you will have a consultative and can do attitude, be a dynamic and engaging individual; supporting and coaching staff to maximise their performance.

You must possess excellent communication skills both written and oral, alongside good negotiation and influencing skills. It is imperative that you consider yourself to be effective and resilient under pressure and ready to manage the ever changing dynamic of the day to day operation. This can, at times feel challenging to manage, and whilst we pride ourselves on team work and support, it is important to acknowledge that this can be a high pressured environment.

As a proven professional, with a good sense of humour, you will be an integral part of the Oakhill STC team.

In return, you can expect to be rewarded with a competitive salary, holiday entitlement, life assurance, company pension, comprehensive training and career development.
