About the Role:


Houghton Close Surgery has an exciting opportunity for a personal assistant/secretary to join our busy practice support team, on a part-time basis for 8 hours per week, over 2 days, to assist the practice management team.


The main responsibilities of the role include:

  • Managing diaries and organising meetings.
  • Organising events.
  • Reminding the management team of important tasks and deadlines.
  • Typing, compiling and preparing reports, presentations and correspondence.
  • Managing system databases and filing systems.
  • Implementing and maintaining procedures/administrative systems.
  • Liaising with staff, patients and allied healthcare providers.
  • Any other miscellaneous tasks to support the management team.

You will have the following:

  • Previous experience as a personal assistant/secretary.
  • Discretion and trustworthiness: you will often be party of confidential information.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Organisational skills and the ability to multitask.
  • The ability to be proactive and take the initiative.
  • Flexibility and adaptability.
  • Tact and diplomacy.
  • A knowledge of standard software packages and the ability to learn specific software if required.
  • Ideally you will have previous experience within a GP practice or NHS setting with a knowledge of SystmOne.

About Us:
Houghton Close Surgery is a large GMS dispensing practice located in Ampthill, Bedfordshire, looking after approximately 11,700 patients.

We are an active member of our primary care network and are rated CQC Good and are a high QoF achieving practice.


We are a dynamic GP partnership consisting of 6 GP partners, 2 salaried GPs and supportive administrative, nursing and dispensary teams.

We are forward thinking, innovative and open to ideas. We care for our patients and aim to provide them with an excellent quality of care. We are a training practice and also take medical students from Cambridge University throughout the year.
