Hours: per week, all MKUH roles will be considered for flexible working

An opportunity has arisen for a Virtual Fracture Clinic Junior Sister. The post holder will work alongside the Orthopaedic team in delivering the Virtual Fracture Service in line with local and national standards. The role involves specialist telephone-based triage to allow patients to be treated in the right place, at the right time whilst reducing unnecessary visits to hospital for face-to-face follow-ups.

As part of our commitment to providing the highest quality service to our patients at MKUH, the post holder will be empowered to improve the VFC patients' pathway using clinical expertise and specialised knowledge. The post holder will also work within nurse - led clinics as well as provide support to the Fracture Clinic face-to-face care where necessary and have an active involvement in multidisciplinary team meetings to help shape patient care.

The post holder will work with the department manager and multi-disciplinary team members in monitoring and maintaining policies, standards of nursing care and staff development. The VFC Junior Sister/Charge Nurse, as part of the wider team, will be flexible in the approach to the clinical area and provide cover for any area specified as necessary.

    Interview date: 05 June 2024

    Main duties of the job

The aim of this role is to provide highly specialist autonomous clinical leadership in the delivery of the virtual fracture clinic service within MKUH. This will involve managing a varied patient caseload where the post holder will be required to plan, modify and carry out complex assessment, diagnosis and intervention demonstrating clinical judgement in order to lead the service.

The aim of the VFC is to provide telephone-based assessments to triage patients and provide them with treatment plans for their diagnosed injury. Triage assessments involve assessing patients post fracture or soft tissue injury, requesting imaging as required and deciding on their ongoing management plan, with support available from Specialist Orthopaedic Consultants. You will use advanced clinical reasoning in this role, as well as providing support, education and advice to other members of the team.

The post holder will demonstrate advanced knowledge of current understanding of the philosophy and theory underpinning the fracture clinic service. Provide expert clinical opinion in the review and implementation of clinical service models. Take an active lead in the formulation of annual audits, research and evaluation strategies for their specialty and act as a role model demonstrating high levels of nursing care.
