Job DescriptionFestival Director - Boardmasters
As a key executive within Vision Nine, part of Superstruct Entertainment, and reporting to the CEO of Vision Nine, the Boardmasters Festival Director will lead the successful planning, coordination and delivery of the Boardmasters Festival and play an instrumental role in driving key initiatives and strategic projects.
This pivotal role demands a dynamic and seasoned leader with a comprehensive understanding of major events, capable of combining strategic thinking, delivery of dynamic budgets and multi year business plans as well as expert planning and execution.
As such, the Boardmasters Festival Director must provide effective leadership and ensure that the team resources and processes are optimised to achieve resilient but efficient outcomes.
The role is geared towards a highly organised, structured and results-oriented leader capable of driving organisational effectiveness and mobilising cross-functional teams to deliver against the strategic vision and commercial, operational and financial targets.
Whilst this is a leadership role, you'll lead by example and enjoy rolling your sleeves up.As well as taking the day-to-day lead on strategic projects, you will be comfortable jumping in and getting into the 'doing' where required.
Leadership & delivery of key initiatives and strategic projectsProvide day-to-day leadership for Boardmasters, overseeing and managing all aspects of business operations, ensuring efficiency and effectiveness
Working closely with our CEO and Superstruct Entertainment to drive the organisation to implement the 3-year business plan at financial, strategic and operational levels through hands-on delivery support, enhanced governance and effective KPIs
As the day-to-day festival lead, you'll co-ordinate, via the department heads across production and operations, marketing, music and content, food, bars and trade, ensuring cohesive cross functional delivery with a focus on driving the commercial result and delivering exceptional fan experience
Ensure robust project management, owning the festival's planning roadmap and ensuring the teams are working to budget and deadlines
Manage key stakeholder relationships, including brand partners and local partners, stakeholders and communities, and attend local resident and Council meetings as required
Report to the CEO and Superstruct Entertainment on business performance and strategic projects
Financial management & performance improvement
Support bottom-up budget development, ensuring efficient and methodical priority setting and allocation of resources and strong controls on commercial and financial outcomes
Work closely with Head of Finance to define commercial targets, ticketing mix and pricing and identify other ancillary revenue opportunities
Collaborate with Head of Finance to ensure cost control measures are in place and accurate regular reporting of revenues and cost, fostering a do 'more with less' culture
Report on operational performance and suggest improvements
Drive efficiencies to improve performance, ensuring improved resource allocation and cost management, without compromising the operational robustness, safety or fan experience
Conduct post-festival evaluations to assess outcomes, gather feedback and identify areas of improvement
Drive initiatives which contribute to long-term festival proposition and commercial and operational excellence
Ensure compliance with laws and regulations
Festival curation, operations & organisation
Lead our Event Management Team who's core role is to ideate, curate and procure content and partners that support in the delivery of an exceptional customer journey and experience
Act as line manager to your direct reports, within the Event Management Team
Drive customer experience, focusing on the customer journey through all touch points from buying a ticket to experiencing the festival; drive initiatives and support the team to engage with priorities that ensure a seemless and unforgettable experience throughout
Ensure the smooth operation of the festival, including safety protocols and compliance with legal requirements
Work closely with the Production Director and approve our operational plans and policies, ensure that all plans with an operational output are closely coordinated, to ensure a smooth execution on the ground both back and front of house
Ensure robust back-of-house operations across festival staffing, artist experience, hospitality, and crew welfare
Facilitate ideation and ensure curation and procurement of world class festival content that delivers exceptional fan experience and value for money
Ensure customer-centric, data-led decision-making
Collaborate with Superstruct's Brand Partnerships team to ensure they achieve commercial success and excellent delivery for festival partners
Lead and implement strategic projects and key initiatives such as the continued development of our sustainability policy, our Boardmasters charitable foundation and the safety of those attending our event, with a special focus on safety initiatives for young people
Experience
Minimum of 10 years' experience in event management, with leadership track-record in delivering major events
Experience of festivals or greenfield music sites is an advantage, but we are also keen to hear from candidates who have led major sporting, cultural or mass participation events
Excellent leadership and team management skills, with the ability to motivate a diverse team to deliver at high levels of quality and consistency
Strong negotiation, communication and interpersonal skills
Ability to work under pressure, manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines
Good understanding of budgeting processes and experience managing large dynamic revenue and cost budgets throughout the event cycle
Working knowledge of the legal and regulatory framework relevant to the events industry
