The BPP Product & Technology (P&T) organization is evolving rapidly, transforming its platforms and digital products to support the business's growth.

    What to Expect as a Senior Software Engineer at BPP:

    Join us as a Senior Software Engineer at BPP, where each day is filled with innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement. Your role, reporting to the Engineering Manager, is crucial for bringing technical expertise to our product engineering teams. You'll utilize modern software development practices to deliver value at an agile pace. In addition to designing complex systems, you'll lead by mentoring junior team members.

    As we shift towards a customer-centric approach at BPP Education, your contributions play a pivotal role in creating products that exceed our users' expectations across our education ecosystem. Beyond coding, you'll design solutions that set new standards for clean, efficient, and well-documented code. By engaging in collaborative code reviews, you advocate for quality and future sustainability.

    Your influence extends to mentoring other engineers and instilling a culture of top-notch engineering practices. By embracing clean coding, pair programming, and cloud-native solutions, you help drive continuous improvement. Diving into observability metrics and user feedback, you steer our technical advancements with valuable insights.

    Being proactive and staying informed about industry best practices and emerging technologies is second nature to you, ensuring BPP's software engineering remains cutting-edge. Join us in our mission to establish the best engineering team in the UK's higher education sector, delivering innovative software solutions that enhance the academic experience for students, faculty, and staff.

    What We Are Looking for:

    • Senior software engineer experience in an agile environment.
    • Deep expertise in full stack and cloud technologies like Typescript, React, and AWS.
    • Proficiency in test-driven development using frameworks such as Jest, Cypress, and React Testing Library.
    • Passion for fostering inclusivity, supporting diverse engineers' growth.
    • Strong communication skills to convey ideas to various stakeholders.

    Interview Process:

    Our interview process consists of three rounds:

    1. Initial call with a talent team member.
    2. Technical screening with a hiring manager.
    3. Final interview including a technical session and a values-based interview.

    We provide interview feedback and aim for an inclusive process lasting 2-3 weeks.

    How We Operate at BPP:

    Our Product & Tech roles are mainly based in London. We encourage flexibility in working practices, focusing on trust and achieving excellence, rather than strict hours. In-office presence a few days a week is expected for better collaboration and communication.

    Technology Stack:

    We utilize a modern technology stack for rapid delivery and quality customer experiences. Our architecture is service-based, cloud-native with AWS. Our tech tools range from Next.JS and React to Node, Python, and GraphQL.

    Our infrastructure is provisioned using Terraform, with GitHub Actions for CI/CD. We prioritize testing using tools like Localstack to enhance development experiences.

    Behind our tech decisions, we involve the community through RFCs and ADRs for informed choices.

    Your First Three Months:

    Initial months involve onboarding, a learning curve, mentorship, code reviews, project contributions, feedback, company culture immersion, confidence-building, and celebrating milestones. This period sets the foundation for a successful software engineering journey at BPP.
