    Job summary

    This is an exciting opportunity for a child andadolescent consultant psychiatrist to become involved in transformation andleadership within a forward looking CAMHS service. We are keen to shape thepost to fit the needs of the right applicant and to support them in developingtheir interests within our broad portfolio of services.

    Durham Tees Valley Child and Adolescent Mental HealthServices work with children and young people up to the age of 18 across GettingHelp, Getting More help and neurodevelopmental assessment teams. Generic teamsare closely linked with LD CAMHS, Eating Disorders and Forensic CAMHS. The outof hours activity is supported by dedicated CAMHS crisis team, which operateson 24/7 basis and provides extended crisis input as well as home treatmentoptions as an alternative to hospital admissions.

    The Hartlepool CAMHS Getting More Help team are based at Dover Housewhich is in the centre of Hartlepool. It has good public transport links andfree car parking is provided to staff directly outside of the building.

    Hartlepool has a population of around 93,000 of which approximately 25% are children under18

    The post holder will haveresponsibility for the assessment and management of mental and/or behaviouralneeds of children and young people presenting with mental disorder andrequiring assessment for neurodevelopmental needs.

    There are opportunities to become a GMCregistered trainer . clinical and / or educational supervisor.

    Main duties of the job

    The post holder is expected tooffer mental health assessment, psychiatric opinions, diagnosis and holisticcare plans for patients up to the age of 18, referred to them in hours and whenon call. The Trust expects about 2 new patient assessments per week with 650face to face contacts per year; this is for a full-time consultant, but exactfigures can vary, depending upon the type of work undertaken, in agreement injob planning.

    Direct patient contact wouldinclude new patients to service, new psychiatric assessments and reviewappointments.

    Clinical work would be expectedto be carried out predominantly within the clinical base at Dover house but mayoccur within other settings for example a young person may have strong feelingsabout being seen in an alternative community setting or it may be moreappropriate to see a young person at their school.

    The post holder will berequired to be Section 12 approved, preferably with Approved Clinician status.The Trust would support the post holder to secure these approvals if notalready in place when appointed.

    The post holder will beexpected to complete a minimum of 8 hours clinical supervision per year. Thiscan be in any of a number of formats including individual or group supervision.IT support allows for supervision to be face to face or remote (over secureweb-based MS Teams). The Lead Psychiatrist will provide support to the postholder to secure a Clinical Supervisor.

    Psychiatrists are essentialcontributors to the majority of our mental health teams. Service users expectand are justified to expect collaborative relationships with dedicatedpsychiatrists who work consistently as part of effective services. Our medicalstaffing shortage puts strain on services and puts strain on workforcewellbeing and costs extend beyond the financial. The Medical Directorate andMedical Development Team are striving to improve medical workforce recruitmentand retention in a variety of ways and the cornerstone of these efforts is TheTEWV Charter for the Medical Workforce.
