An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Clinical/Counselling Psychologist to join the Enfield CAMHS – Generic and Neurodevelopmental (NDS) Team.

The Generic/NDS Team provides a comprehensive range of assessment and therapeutic interventions. The team further, provides consultation to professionals, as well as assessment and treatment for Neurodevelopmental conditions. As part of the Generic team we have also an opportunity to work with children under 5 and their parents/carers.

The post holder will be joining a supportive multi-disciplinary team, using formulation and drawing on different clinical approaches in line with the THRIVE Framework.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will provide assessments and deliver therapeutic interventions for a broad range of mental health conditions meeting specialist CAMHS criteria. The role is mainly clinic-based and will focus on the delivery of timely, high quality interventions. This position provides opportunities to work with and develop links with health and social care as part of the THRIVE Framework to delivery of care for young people. The role is for a Clinical/Counselling Psychologist who enjoys specialist work in a dynamic CAMHS service.

Regular clinical supervision will be provided, exploring development opportunities for the post holder. We will support individuals to develop specialist skills and pursue specific areas of interest or service development projects where appropriate. We also hold regular CPD and service development days across the whole service.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The post holder will be a Clinical/Counselling Psychologist with experience of working with children and families. They will provide both direct and indirect care, working with colleagues within the multidisciplinary team. They will have knowledge / expertise of treatment for children and adolescents with Mental Health issues and neurodevelopment disorders. The post holder will establish good working relationships with multi agnecy services, including voluntary sector organisations in order to better meet the needs of young people and their families.

Qualifications/ Registrations

Essential criteria

• Doctoral level training in clinical or counselling psychology, including specifically models of psychopathology, clinical psychometrics and neuropsychology, two or more distinct psychological therapies and lifespan developmental psychology as accredited by the BPS
• Registration with the Health Professions Council as a Practitioner Psychologist.

Desirable criteria

• Training in additional specialised areas of psychological practice
• Training in a subject/skill relevant to Child and Adolescent Mental Health (0-18 years)
• ADOS-II training
• Training in supervision.

• Advanced skills in using a wide variety of evidence-based psychological theory, therapy protocols and interventions and the ability to use these appropriately in relation to client need and work setting.
• Advanced skills in the use of complex methods of psychological assessment, intervention, and management of a wide variety of mental health presentations.
• Well-developed skills in the ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, complex, highly technical &/or clinically sensitive information to clients, their families, carers, and other professional colleagues both within and outside the NHS.
• Extensive understanding of child development, mental health difficulties and psychosocial influences, including trauma and attachment.
• Ability to develop good therapeutic relationships and maintain professional boundaries.
• Advanced skills in professional supervision and consultation including to multi-disciplinary and multi-agency colleagues.
• Ability to complete psychological assessment, intervention and care plans to meet the needs of clients.

Experience/ Knowledge

Essential criteria

• Experience of working with children and adolescents in CAMHS or equivalent Services.
• Experience of offering and knowledge and understanding of the need to offer evidence-based therapy protocols for range of common and less common presentations in all levels of severity.
• Experience in managing and treating clients with a risk of self-harm, suicide and/or substance misuse.
• Experience of specialist psychological assessment including specifically assessments for neurodevelopmental conditions such as ASD and ADHD
• Experience in the application of risk assessment, including self-harm and suicidality, and intervention with both individuals and their families, and safeguarding procedures in this area.
• Previous experience of supervising clinicians and in operational leadership functions.
• Experience in managing cases where there may be conflicting motivations and interests between the young person and their family.
• Experience of working with a high degree of professionalism in the face of highly emotive and distressing problems, verbal abuse, and the threat of physical abuse with a wide variety of client groups across the whole life course presenting problems that reflect the full range of clinical severity.
• Experience in offering treatment and case management for clients across a range of conditions and care settings.
• Experience of exercising full clinical responsibility for treatment, both as a professionally qualified care coordinator and within the context of a multidisciplinary care plan.
• Experience of working in a multi-disciplinary team.
• Experience of working with a range of childhood and adolescents' presentation at the acute and chronic stage.
• Experience of involving service users.
