    Job summary

    Length of contract: You will be employed full timebut continued employment pastyear one is conditional onsuccessfulcompletion of your EMHPPostgraduate Diploma Course.

    This is a training rolewithin the Green Paper for Transforming children and youngpeoples mental healthprogramme. The post holder will work within Mind in West Essex providing lowintensity interventions whilst undertaking a programme of training for thisrole. The training post will equip the post-holder to provide a range ofcognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) based self- management interventions tochildren and young people with mild to moderate anxiety and depression and/orbehavioural difficulties. The post- holder will attend all taught andself-study days required by the education provider, as specified within theEMHP curriculum and work in the service for the remaining days of the weekusing their newly developed skills.

    The post holder will workwith children, young people and parents with different cultural backgrounds andages, using interpreters when necessary and should be committed to equalopportunities.

    In this role you will be playing a significant and positive part in shaping the mental health of children, young people and families in this will be part of a supportive, enthusiastic team adding to the successful teams we already host.

    Main duties of the job

    In this role you will be spending the first year part time at University training to be able to deliver Low Intensity CBT based interventions. You will be working in Primary schools delivering emotion regulation groups to children and also groups to help parents who want to know more in how to support their children. In Secondary schools you will be working individually with students experiencing anxiety and/or low mood. You will also be working closely with school staff to deliver various workshops. Liasing with school staff you will offer signposting options for those young people who are not suitable for the MHST service. As well as delivering the interventions you will be completing accurate records for data collection and reporting.

    Job responsibilities

    Thisis a training role within the Green Paper forTransforming children and young peoples mental health programme.     Under supervision and with support, to developknowledge and practice skills in:

    Deliveringevidence-based1:1, group and whole classinterventions for children and young people, with mild tomoderate mental health problems, in an educationsetting.

    Helpingchildren and young people within these settings who present with more severeproblems to rapidly access more specialist service.

    Supportingand facilitating staff in education settings to identify, and whereappropriate, manage issues related to mental health and wellbeing.

    Workingwith and within educational environments to afford better access to specialistmental health services.

    Providing evidence of the development of those skills withassociated knowledge acquisition to record and evidence progression towards anacademic award and demonstrable practical ability.

    Working within education settings to deliver a whole schoolapproach in relation to mental/emotional health. This will also includeupskilling school staff.

    Clinicaland Client Care

    Beeducationally supervised, supported and assessed to deliver outcome focused, evidence-basedinterventions in educational settings for children and young peopleexperiencing mild to moderate mental health difficulties, primarily guidedself-help.

    Developskills in supporting children and young people experiencing mild to moderatemental health difficulties, their parents/carers, families and educators in theself-management of presenting difficulties.

    Developand practice evidence-based skills under supervisory support of working inpartnership with children, young people, their families and educators in thedevelopment of plans for the specific intervention and agreeing outcomes.

    Developand learn the skills required in order to enable children and young people ineducation, and where appropriate parents/carers to collaborate and co-producetheir own agreed plan of care.

    Showevidence in a variety of forms that at all times assessment and intervention isprovided from an inclusive values base, which recognises and respects diversity.

    Discusswith supervisors and agree to accept appropriate referrals for children andyoung people in educational settings, according to agreed local and nationaland local referral routes, processes and procedures.

    Undersupervision, undertake accurate assessments of risk to self and others.

    Whererisk is identified to implement appropriate procedures to maintain safety.

    Learn,understand, rationalise and adhere to the protocols within the educationalservice to which the post holder is attached.

    Engagealong with more senior staff in the signposting of referrals for children andyoung people with more complex needs to the relevant service.

    Engagein robust managerial and clinical supervision, identifying the scope ofpractice of the individual post-holder within the role, and working safelywithin that scope.

    Gainand practice a range of interventions related to provision of information andsupport for evidence based psychological treatments.

    Practice,evidence, reflect on and demonstrate an ability to manage ones own caseload inconjunction with the requirements of the team.

    Attendmulti-disciplinary and multi-agency meetings relating to referrals or childrenand young people in treatment, where appropriate, both for personal educationalbenefit in discussion with supervisors, or to provide direct assistance

    Keepcoherent records of all training and clinical activity in line with both healthand education service protocols and use these records and outcome data toinform decision making.

    Completeall requirements relating to data collection.

    Showevidence of working within a collaborative approach, involving a range ofrelevant others when indicated. Specifically, work in collaboration withteachers and other educational staff, parents, children, young people and thewider community to enhance and broaden access to mental health services.

    Contributeto the development of individual or group clinical materials or trainingmaterials and go on to develop further such materials as falls within owndegree of competence.

    Training& Supervision

    Attendand fulfil all the requirements of the training element of the post includingpractical, academic and practice-based assessments.

    As wellas attendance at the University for training, fulfil private study requirementsto enhance learning and prepare assignments for examination as required.

    Applylearning from the training program directly to practice through the course.

    Receivepractice tutoring from educational providers in relation to course work to meetthe required standards.

    Prepareand present case load information to supervisors within the service on anagreed and scheduled basis, to ensure safe practice and the governanceobligations of the trainee, supervisor and service are delivered.

    Respondto and evidence the implementation of improved practice following supervisorfeedback.

    Engagein and respond to personal development supervision to improve competencies andpractice.

    Beinvolved in the evaluation of the course.

    Disseminateresearch and service evaluation findings through presentations and supervisorydiscussions.

    Professional

    Ensurethe maintenance of standards of own professional practice according to bothMind in West Essex and the Higher Education Institute (HEI) in which they areenrolled. Ensureappropriate adherence to any new recommendations or guidelines set by therelevant departments.

    Ensurethat confidentiality is always protected.

    Ensurethat any risks or issues related to the safety and wellbeing of anyone the post-holdercomes into contact with during their professional duties are communicated andshared with appropriate parties in order to maintain individual safety and thepublic interest.

    Ensureclear objectives are identified, discussed and reviewed with supervisor andsenior colleagues on a regular basis as part of continuing professionaldevelopment.

    Beaware of the outcomes required of the Mental Health Support Team and ensurethese are used where appropriate in clinical work and the whole schoolapproach.

    Participatein individual performance review and respond to agreed objectives.

    Keepall records up to date in relation to Continuous Professional Development andthe requirements of the post and ensure personal development plans maintains upto date specialist knowledge of latest theoretical and service deliverymodels/developments.

    Attendrelevant educational opportunities in line with identified professionalobjectives.

    Develop and maintain an upto date awareness of the entire Mind in West Essex offer.

    General:

    Understand,promote, keep up to date and comply with all policies and procedures andguidelines of the organisation (in particular Safeguarding and Data Protection).

  • Evidence of the ability to work calmly and remain resilient whilst under pressure
  • Understanding of the issues faced by children and young people experiencing mental health problems
  • The ability to use a range of office-based software packages and IT systems
  • The ability to work with/support other Mind in West Essex staff as requested
  • Experience working with young people, ideally be within an educational setting
  • No criminal record that prevents work with our client group or which would harm our reputation.
  • Valid UK driving licence and/or access to transport to enable travel between educational settings on a daily basis.
  • To be accepted for this post, applicants will be interviewed in conjunction with a representative from the University and also need to be offered a place on the course.

  • The educational nature of this course will require personal time for study/reading/preparation in addition to the time at university and at educational settings. This will be outside of the paid hours per week.
  • Knowledge of Low Intensity CBT is helpful.

  • The HEI Institutions offering the training course expect a minimum academic requirement, applicants will need to show proof of Level 5 study acceptable to the HEI. For example, Degree, DipHE, HND, level 5 award/certificate/diploma and NVQ.
  • Experience working with young people, ideally be within an educational setting
  • Understanding of the issues faced by children and young people experiencing mental health problems
  • The ability to use a range of office based software packages and IT systems
  • Excellent communication skills, the desire to achieve positive outcomes and to have relevant entry criteria as per the HEI.
  • Valid UK driving licence and/or access to transport to enable travel between educational settings on a daily basis. Additional occasional travel across West Essex and Hertfordshire
