Senior Costs Advisor / Lawyer- Costs
We are seeking a senior Costs Advisor to join our expanding high value technical team in Costs Bolton.
- provide strategic costs support to the Lead Costs Lawyer and complex injury lawyers
- Be responsible for own case load dealing with all aspects of costs work on high value and complex claims within CIC, including advocacy at detailed assessment, CMCs and other hearings as required
- Assist the Lead Costs Lawyer with identifying new costs initiatives & strategies on complex injury claims and help develop Keoghs' CIC brand / product
- Help the Lead Costs Lawyer develop, train, supervise, mentor and grow a team of costs lawyers to meet the demands and needs of the CIC team
The role is a flexible hybrid with up to 1 day per week in the office; this is flexible and based on each individual.
Key Accountabilities
- Assume responsibility for own high value / technical caseload dealing with all aspects of drafting, negotiating and advocacy to ensure timely and profitable resolution of claims
- Develop & execute own resolution strategies on individual claims whilst working within the broader resolution strategies of Keoghs and their clients
- Ensure compliance with the prevailing SRA & CLSB Code(s) of Conduct
- Adhere to Keoghs Values
- Assist in providing an 'environment' where other team members feel motivated and deliver excellence.
- Work alongside the Lead Costs Lawyer to continuously improve the quality of work in the team and provide constructive feedback to junior team members
- Identify appropriate learning activities to maximise personal development of themselves and other team members, to include identifying any training needs and assisting the Lead Costs Lawyer with training materials
- Assist in managing the performance of junior team members against Key Performance Indicators.
- Assist the Lead Costs Lawyer with identifying, developing and implementing new costs initiatives & strategies
- Assisting the Lead Costs Lawyer where appropriate with management of team members according to the firm's policies, employment laws and HR procedures.
Experience, Skills and Qualifications
- Excellent knowledge of costs principles and case law
- Experienced and proficient in all stages of the civil litigation process
- Proven experience in handling high value and complex injury claims
- Ability to liaise clearly and constructively with complex injury lawyers, managers, key individuals within the business, special interest groups and clients
- Proficient advocacy skills
- Ability to review other team members case reports & advices and form swift views on resolution strategy & tactics
- Excellent listening and verbal communication skills
- Ability to nurture and encourage team members to give their best
- Ability to relate to people as individuals and understand their particular needs in terms of direction, training, learning style etc.
- Ability to influence others
- Ability to remain calm under pressure
- Ability to take constructive feedback and set personal goals for continuous improvement
- Ability to remain fair and objective at all times
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (word and excel in particular) and experience of using a Case/Claims Management system
