Do you want to work in an exciting city with talented people and play a pivotal role in our transformation and finance improvement journey? We have an exciting opportunity to join our Capital Finance Team as they embark on the next phase of the Council's Capital Programme.

We are looking for a Governance & Assurance Officer who will support the governance of all major capital projects & investments undertaken by The Council, and provide support to the delivery of key City Council capital projects & programmes. This role is fixed term for 6 months to support the delivery of finance improvement projects as recommended by the Commissioners.

Role Overview:

As a Governance & Assurance Officer you will be responsible for supporting the development of the capital management strategy of the Council, implementing project and programme management best practice across the organisation, and supporting the delivery of key City Council capital projects and programmes.

Key Responsibilities:

To design, implement, and embed 'best-practice' programme and project management tools, techniques, processes and methodologies across the Capital Programme in order to improve the delivery of the Council's key projects.

To ensure the maintenance of high standards/compliance within the Capital Programme by completing independent assurance and health checks on key programmes/projects concentrating on fulfilment of strategy, the impact on business operations and other areas of concern.

To create, review and distribute project, programme and portfolio level reports including commentary on performance, identify and report on deviations when appropriate, ensuring reporting deadlines are achieved.

You will have

A Degree or relevant qualification to the role, but suitable experience considered

Experience of working in local Government

Experience of working in a PMO or of assuring programmes/projects and development of best practice tools and processes

A track record of working in successful partnerships to deliver successful project outcomes

A proven track record in programme or project management to deliver financial and non-financial outcomes and priorities
