    Job summary

    Are you a Clinical Pharmacist looking for your next career step? We have a fantastic opportunity available to join our dynamic and friendly pharmacy team in the brilliant city of Sheffield.

    Based at Northern General hospital, our Respiratory Unit includes inpatient respiratory wards and our Adult Cystic Fibrosis Centre (12 in-patient beds) provides tertiary care to over 200 patients.

    Alongside the Lead Pharmacists for Respiratory and Cystic fibrosis, you will work closely with a well-established team including junior pharmacists and medicines management technicians to develop your clinical skills you'll provide clinical pharmacy services to the in-patient areas, and get involved in homecare and out patient clinics.

    The role will require good communication, time management and analytical skills and the ability to work effectively in a team.

    To apply, you'll need to have a certificate in clinical pharmacy, be registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council.

    The successful applicant will complete a guided training plan, evidenced against the RPS advanced pharmacy framework, to progress from band 7 to 8a, with an opportunity to complete independent prescribing if not already achieved and there will be opportunities for you to develop your mentoring and leadership skills.

    The post holder will also contribute to the pharmacy core service, performing departmental duties including evenings and weekends and clinical duties.

    Main duties of the job

    The key roles of the post are to:

  • proactively identify, implement and develop optimum clinical pharmaceutical services to respiratory/CF.
  • support safe transition of care for patients across health care boundaries.
  • perform independent pharmacist prescriber role (when completed relevant training).
  • produce and implement guidelines, protocols and SOPs with the support of a senior pharmacist.
  • contribute to service development projects under the guidance of the Principal Pharmacist as required.
  • provide support and mentorship for the post-registration pharmacists.
  • participate in the education and training of pre-registration pharmacists, other pharmacy staff and healthcare professionals.
  • support pharmacy service areas in the department, this may include dispensaries, technical and medicines information.

    • Please also note this vacancy is banded dependent upon applicants experience relevant to this post. The banding of the successful applicant will start at Band 7 unless applicants meet the necessary threshold of skills and experience required to start on Band 8a.

    Qualifications

    Essential

  • (Band 7 & 8a) Registered Pharmacist with the General Pharmaceutical Council
  • (Band 7 & 8a) MPharm degree in pharmacy.
  • (Band 7 & 8a) Post-graduate Certificate in Clinical Pharmacy or equivalent qualification or near completion of certificate or 60 credits passed
  • (Band 8a) Higher Degree/Post-graduate Diploma in Clinical Pharmacy or equivalent qualifications
  • (Band 8a) Registered Independent prescriber

  • (Band 7) Registered Independent prescriber
  • (Band 7) Higher Degree/Post-graduate Diploma in Clinical Pharmacy or equivalent qualifications

  • (Band 7 & 8a) Extensive post-registration experience including significant experience in respiratory/cystic fibrosis/antimicrobials
  • (Band 7 & 8a) Experience in a wide range of clinical pharmacy specialities.
  • (Band 8a) Foundation level or equivalent in General Medicine pharmacy experience or Advanced level practice in another acute hospital specialty ( surgery, renal, cardiac, general medicine or TPN)
  • (Band 8a) Advanced level assessment in General Medicine Pharmacy.
  • (Band 8a) Experience of regular contribution to multi-professional ward rounds.
  • (Band 8a) Experience of working within service development projects.
