    Senior Physiotherapist Community Therapy - Brentwood, Essex, United Kingdom - North East London NHS Foundation Trust

    Description

    The post holder will hold a relevant clinical qualification to degree level or equivalent in Physiotherapy and have worked recently as a physiotherapist within stroke specialist or neurology specialist services either as a community practitioner or within an identified inpatient setting.

    Working as part of a multi-disciplinary team, they will manage a caseload of patients with complex needs, using evidence based practise, the principles of physiotherapy practise and patient centred practise, to ensure a high quality service to all those referred to the teams.

    They are required to have a role in the leadership of junior staff and support assistants, through supervision, training and appraisal.

    To complete comprehensive physiotherapy assessments, through interview, observation of functional tasks and/or use of standardised assessments for patients referred to the service with a range of complex post stroke presentations and symptoms.

    To work autonomously as a lone worker in the community.

    To deputise when required in your seniors absence and delegate appropriately to more junior members of staff, support workers and rehabilitation assistants with guidance as appropriate.

    To be responsible for training and supervision of junior staff, students, assistants and carers in the Community.

    To have organisational knowledge relating to Trust protocols and procedures and adhere to them, particularly administration of medicine and moving and handling.

    To ensure effective risk management at team level by accident/incident reporting, assessing and controlling risk and ensuring residual risks are added to the Trust register.8 To liaise closely with the multi-disciplinary team, specialist nursing staff, patient, carers and other professionals involved in care provision.

    All new starters will join the Trust on the first Monday of each month and will undertake a comprehensive induction of up to two weeks which will include mandatory training, systems training and the allocation of equipment.

    As part of the process new starters will have the opportunity to also meet the executive team, senior managers and attend a number of drop in sessions focusing in engagement, health and wellbeing and key processes.

    The induction will be held at our head office in Rainham, Essex.


    To be able to perform a competent assessment of patients, including those with multiple pathologies, using clinical reasoning skills and manual assessment techniques to formulate a diagnosis based on the clinical findings of their condition.

    Working with access to direct supervision from a more senior physiotherapist.

    To comply with the organisation and departmental guidelines, protocols and policies, whilst adhering to Chartered Society of Physiotherapy (CSP) guidelines and Health Professions Council (HPC) requirements.

    Assess patient understanding of suggested physiotherapy management/rehabilitation programme, gain valid informed consent and to have the capacity to work within a legal framework with patients who are unable to consent to treatment.

    ~Through experiential knowledge and clinical reasoning, be able to identify patient needs and help the patient to form goals and plans for interventions using evidence based practise.

    Complete a wide range of interventions including giving advice and support, home activity or clinic based programmes, rehabilitation, treatment, and equipment provision.

    To maintain a dynamic caseload with effective discharge planning and onward referral to other services if required.

    To assist in the guidance and training of student Physiotherapists to adhere to best practice and to support students from other professional groups who may be visiting the service.

    To work in line with the RCP National Stroke Guidelines, Stroke Strategy, NHS Improvement Plan, NSF for People with Long term Conditions and appropriate NICE guidance.

    ~To communicate in an appropriate, professional and sensitive manner with service users, their relatives and carers, as well as communicating effectively with colleagues, peers, senior managers and clinical leads within the Trust.

    To be able to communicate information of a complex, sensitive or contentious nature, or information that may be perceived as unwelcome to a patient and their family/representative regarding their mobility, expectations of rehabilitation or the degenerative nature of the patients condition.

    Networking with other multi-disciplinary, statutory, private and voluntary organisations, users, carers and assisting in managing the interfaces between them.

    Previous experience of working in the UK or a similar health economy as a physiotherapist
    Experience of working as a band 6 physiotherapist and working in a variety of specialities

    Post registration courses completed in specific areas of neurology

    Clinical Knowledge in neurological physiotherapy and of standards of practise, evidence and best practise guidelines
    Previous experience of clinically supervising junior staff/students
