Subject Leader, Design Technology job summary

We are looking for a creative and enthusiastic leader to help lead our Design and Technology department to the next level in its exciting evolution..

Do you want to work in a school that:
  • Is friendly and community centred, where staff genuinely feel part of a team. 'The school is mindful of staff workload and well-being. It provides high-quality training and support. Staff recognise this and they feel valued and respected' (Ofsted 2023).
  • Places staff well-being at the heart of everything we do.
  • Has a full time Instructional Coach who works with staff to develop their practice through selecting specific teaching goals that maximise student learning.
  • Has an 'aspirational and appropriate curriculum for all' (Ofsted 2023).
  • Has students who behave well in lessons (Ofsted 2023) so teachers can teach and students can learn.
  • Prioritises high quality bespoke CPLD as well as opportunities for collaboration and support across a successful and highly respected multi academy trust.
  • Is well resourced and where each teacher has their own classroom complete with interactive screen as well as a Chromebook.
This is a school with great students and ambitious, talented staff, who aim to develop students who have the belief in themselves that anything is possible. Design Technology is a key component in our curriculum as we value the role it plays in our students' education. We are looking for an inspiring individual to join our school community, lead and develop the department and contribute to the life chances of the young people in our school community.

We are seeking a dedicated, innovative and effective Subject Leader to lead and develop our Design Technology department. This role would suit an experienced teacher able to lead our team of subject specialists, and be responsible for teaching and learning in Design Technology across all Key Stages and technology specialisms. Although we invite applicants with expertise across the technology disciplines, the ability to teach Product Design would be advantageous. Applications from current subject leaders looking for a career move, or from strong candidates seeking to progress to middle leadership are welcome.

As Subject Leader you will be part of a wider team of valued and trusted middle leaders working towards the shared vision of the school. We believe in the principle of "aligned autonomy" which gives you freedom to develop and innovate within your subject whilst working collaboratively, valuably contributing to the success of the whole school and our students.

This is a very exciting time to join our school. We are looking for an enthusiastic professional with the expertise and dedication to live out our values of 'commitment to others, commitment to learning'. These commitments are central to our school, demonstrated by the strong, warm relationships, and a strong culture of learning for both students and staff. This role will allow you genuine scope to be part of something ambitious and improve the opportunities and outcomes of students in our school community so as to ensure they have the best possible chance to flourish and succeed. At the Oxford Academy, we work to meet the needs of all - whatever it takes.

A £9000 recruitment incentive (R&R) payment for successful candidates applying directly to RLT for this role, is payable after a qualifying period of two full terms in this role. This includes a 3-year retention period. Please see our attached information sheet for more details.

Education has the power to change lives, communities and society for the better. At RLT we believe that we can achieve more for our pupils, trainees, staff and communities by working together rather than alone. Schools in RLT are united by a common belief in the benefits of working together, and by our commitment to shared principles.

OUR VISION is for our schools and SCITT to improve rapidly, continuously and sustainably: to be better faster together.

OUR 'WHY?' is that children and young people 'only get one go' in school and therefore as part of RLT we aim to ensure the best possible 'go' for our pupils.

OUR 'HOW?' is through the highest support and challenge for our schools and each other, underpinned by our principles.

Our employees benefit from a wide variety of support including extensive continuing professional learning and development opportunities, wellbeing and staff networks and access to Defined Benefit Pension Schemes (TPS and LGPS) for all staff. For more information on what it is like to work for the Trust, and the benefits you could access, please see our "Working in RLT" guide.

The Trust is required to conduct a variety of checks and online searches about you as part of their recruitment process in accordance with Keeping Children Safe in Education guidance.
