Job description:

As a Senior Strategy and Policy Advisor you will homed in the IfATE strategy team but will also undertake work for our policy function.

You will also work on some of the key strategic and policy issues that affect the apprenticeship and technical education system.

To deliver successfully you will need to work with colleagues across IfATE to develop ideas into actions to deliver our strategy.

As someone working at the forefront of developments, you will need to be comfortable dealing with ambiguity and changing priorities and have a good understanding of our remit, operational functions, and be able to build and maintain strong networks.

Responsibilities

  • Build relationships with key stakeholders to communicate and promote our environmental and climate change strategy
  • Provide our point of contact on the environmental and climate change strategy for other government departments, including supporting our CEO's engagement with the Ministerial Green Jobs Delivery Group
  • Track, monitor, and report against the delivery of our climate environmental and climate change strategy
  • Provide policy input to the redevelopment of the IfATE occupational maps, so that they provide a clear point of access to environmental and climate change apprenticeships and technical education products.
  • Review and refine IfATE's process for classifying occupations and apprenticeship and technical education products that contribute to the country achieving its environmental and climate change goals, taking account of the developing ONS system of classification.
  • Work with our communications and digital function to develop and maintain our external and internal presentation of our environmental and climate change work, including our web presence.
  • Actively maintain and develop IfATE's portfolio of core system policies, such as competence and level descriptors, ensuring policy is optimised to meet the needs of the programme.
  • Identifying and developing options for changes in policy to respond to changes in need or changes to the use of existing apprenticeship and technical education products.

Person specification:

Essential Criteria

  • Experience of leading multiple pieces of work with (potentially) conflicting levels of priority and making sound decisions on prioritisation
  • Experience of influencing and advising senior leaders with regards to developing and implementing strategic plans and policy.
  • Experience of providing briefing and advice to senior leaders, giving clear advice on complex issues
  • Experience of successfully building and maintaining excellent, productive networks, and providing considerate challenge to assumptions where they exist
  • Experience of quickly learning about new, and potentially complex, areas of work and building an understanding of how they fit either other linked work strands or projects.

Desirable Criteria

  • Experience of project management
  • Experience of working within the apprenticeship and technical education system

Working flexibly is important to the success of the IfATE, and while you will have specific responsibilities as set out above, you will be part of a 'one team' approach and may be asked to be involved in a range of other activities.

As new areas of work progress, you may be asked to move between teams
