    Whittington Health Library is looking for a dedicated and innovative Librarian to take forward and develop the service when the current post-holder retires in the Summer. It is possibly the best job in NHS Libraries, leading a small, talented and experienced Team dedicated to providing excellent knowledge and library services to our NHS and Higher Education partners.

    The post, which is at Band 8, leads on the strategic development of services for Whittington Health NHS Trust, Camden & Islington NHS Foundation Trust and Primary Care in North Central London. It also supports placement students from UCL Medical School and Middlesex University. The post holder manages a Team of four. As well as leading the Team, the Librarian will also keep their hand in, contributing towards training and the literature search service.

    We are looking for someone with Team Leadership skills, experience of managing and developing services for multiple partners and managing a budget. A good knowledge of current developments in healthcare librarianship and training and facilitation skills are essential.

    Main duties of the job Strategy and Development - leads on the strategic development of Whittington Health Library, to ensure that staff from all partners can easily access information to identify evidence based best practice.

    Service Management - oversee the day to day running of the library, including writing and updating Library service policies.

    Staff Management - lead the Library team and provide support for the personal and professional development of all staff.

    Financial Management - manage the Library budget and seek opportunities to bid for additional funding, including in working with other local healthcare providers.

    Service Development, Delivery and Improvement - ensure provision of access to high quality evidence and maintain awareness of new developments.

    Training - Contribute to training and induction for all staff and students, including 1-to-1 training and facilitating small group training and journal clubs.

    Quality - take part in NHS Quality Improvement Outcomes Framework activities, producing assessments and improvement plans for partner trusts.

    Marketing and communication - an essential duty, this includes developing relationships with current and future key partners and participating in local and National professional activities.

    IT - ensure the library supports new developments in accessing health information on multiple platforms.

    Professional Development - maintain and improve skills and knowledge through participation in continuing education and other training.     • Degree or postgraduate qualification in librarianship, information science or related discipline
    • Microsoft Office or equivalent skills at advanced level, including word, powerpoint, excel and publisher
    • Evidence of continuing professional development
    • Specialist knowledge of managing and developing library services acquired through Masters degree or equivalent experience
    • Member of the Chartered Institute of Library and Information equivalent experience

    Knowledge & Experience Essential
    • 4 years experience of working in a healthcare or specialty library
    • 2 years experience of library staff recruitment, management, supervision and leadership
    • Experience of managing a budget
    • Experience of designing and delivering information skills training and critical appraisal training to individuals and groups with differing needs and abilities
    • Experience of library management systems
    • Experience of managing intranet/internet pages
    • Knowledge of the information needs of healthcare staff
    • Knowledge of healthcare librarianship and current information resources
    Desirable
    • Recent experience of enquiry work and user education in the health sector
    • Experience of project management
    • Experience of producing business case outlines or submissions
    • An understanding of current NHS developments, policy and structure, and how these may affect library services
    • Use of critical appraisal tools
    • Use of digital media tools such as X (formerly Twitter)
    • Understanding of different learning styles
    • Use of the Koha Library Management System.
