    An exciting opportunity for a talented individual to join a global leader in the sensing sector.

    The Business (Commercial) Unit Manager of Servomex's Hummingbird Sensing business, will have full responsibility and accountability for the unit's P&L, essential business KPIs, overall resource planning, cost management, portfolio management across the entire product life-cycle, and commercial activities; including pricing, quotation, applications support and sales / business development activities.

    Servomex is part of the Spectris FTSE 250 Group and this role will report to our Commercial and Engineering Director; a unique opportunity for a versatile leader to make a serious impact on our Hummingbird Business Unit.

    This position will be based out of our UK Technical Centre in Crowborough, East Sussex (hybrid arrangement available).


    About The Opportunity:

    Champion the Servomex safety first policy, actively supporting all activities and initiatives at a corporate, BU and individual level.

    Work collaboratively as part of the Commercial Leadership Team, to set priorities and ensure that company standards and practices are adopted and maintained, such that overall Servomex priorities are achieved and performance maximised.

    Proactively work with the Commercial Leadership Team, to develop the strategic vision & direction into a consolidated, 80:20 prioritised, customer driven, product portfolio roadmap.

    Ensuring that priority NPI, product extension and product sustaining projects are appropriately resourced, planned and financed from within the commercial group and delivered to budget and timeline.

    Ensure the Business Unit (BU) proactively contributes to the maintenance of - and evolution - of the company's ethics, business compliance, quality and regulatory requirements.

    Drive customer engagement across the business, ensuring that the voice of the customer is a constant consideration within the business unit functions.

    Ensure the BU maintains a high level of market understanding through analysis of relevant reports, market research, competitor analysis, surveys and customer visits.

    Work with the Commercial Director and Finance Business Partner to manage the individual BU P&L and deliver sustainable profitable growth.

    Develop and execute annual BU financial plans through the annual budgeting process, quarterly and monthly reporting & forecasting cycles.

    Develop a culture of continuous improvement, being a strong advocate of 80:20, Spectris Business Systems (SBS) & Lean Six sigma principles.

    Defining and delivering year on year business, product & process improvements, reducing complexity and delivering operational excellence through ruthless prioritisation.

    Support the overall Servomex business and product sustainability goals, ensuring this is a consideration at all BU touch points.

    Lead, motivate and retain employees by actively managing the Servomex employee engagement processes, whilst continually developing and nurturing the next generation of managers and leaders through the deployment of talent management and succession planning activities to ensure highly effective teams for today and for the future.

    Have responsibility for all aspects of the BU product portfolio lifecycle, from product definition, through formal development, product launch, ongoing product support, product extension initiatives and end of life obsolescence activities.

    Ensure timely and accurate reporting of key financial and performance metrics.

    Provide strong leadership and direction to all BU functions ensuring a team-based culture, that people are well-trained and motivated and that resources are deployed effectively to meet the business needs, delivering world class customer satisfaction levels.

    Set direction for the selling, pricing strategies and marketing activities which will be executed by the BU focused sales and business development teams.

    Contribute relevant material and analysis to the overall company strategic planning process, enabling Servomex to build long-term, sustainable, competitive advantages in the core markets.

    Work in conjunction with the Commercial Director to establish and maintain the consolidated M&A target funnel.
    Coordinate marcomms and lead generation activities with the Global Marcomms Director.

    Share best practise and work closely with peers, collaborating proactively with the aim of improving our ability to network in the industry and with customers / business influencers.

    Maintain professional standards and implement all Spectris and Servomex policies/procedures across BU business operations.

    Establish a high level of credibility and manage strong working relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including internal / external customers and advisors.


    About Your Talent:

    Essential Skills and Experience:
    Experience managing an OEM business from product conception, through engineering and global marketing and sales.

    Team player able to balance being a member of the innovation to market Leadership Team with leading the Hummingbird team.

    Result oriented behaviour and capable of strategic thinking for both long-term strategic plan and short-term tactical plan delivery.

    Unrelenting internal and external customer focus and ability to turn this into game changing initiatives that can be applied throughout the organisation.

    Proven track record of people management and development within a commercial and technical environment.
    Demonstrable appreciation of the BU core markets and customer drivers.
    Strong communication, analytical and creative problem-solving skills.
    Proven ability to manage, deliver and sustain multi-disciplined projects and initiatives.
    Ability to build collaborative partnerships with cross-functional business partners and peers.
    Strong leadership skills based on emotional intelligence and principle-centred leadership.
    Ability to positively influence others to achieve results that are in the best interest of the entire Servomex Group.
    Ability to add commercial value and implement robust processes and controls.
    Resilient with the ability to handle high pressure and meet agreed deadlines.
    Curious with the ability to problem solve and make and justify difficult decisions.
    Willingness to travel Globally, sometimes at short notice.


    Desirable Skills And Experience:
    Proven strategic planning and management experience.
    Experienced and adept at leading change including transformation programmes.
    Track record of success in the design and implementation of organisational change.
    Extensive industry connections within the Hummingbird markets.

    Experience and knowledge of Lean manufacturing techniques (including design for manufacture) and implementing Lean projects within a commercial environment.80/20 Mindset and philosophy, highly focused on prioritisation and simplification.


    Educational/Professional Qualifications:
    BSc/BA degree (or equivalent), preferably in a scientific or engineering discipline.
    MBA or a professional marketing qualification is highly desirable.
