    Contract: Permanent. Part-time - 26 hours per week.

    There is a possibility of the post being full-time.

    We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced paediatric Occupational Therapist with vision, energy and clinical expertise to make a significant contribution to our Occupational Therapy Service.

    Working in partnership with the current Clinical and Professional Lead OT and alongside the Universal Service and the Social Communication Team Leads you will be responsible for the development and implementation of a graduated offer for children with SEN who have occupational therapy needs in mainstream settings across Haringey from This will include developing the training offer to Local Authority partners, schools and parents/carers to ensure the offer is clear, well communicated and meets the needs of children and families in Haringey.

    The post holder would be part of the friendly and innovative Haringey Children's Therapy Team based in Tottenham and would lead a team of OTs to develop the pathway, working closely with other therapy leads, the local authority and commissioners.

    In Haringey, there is a strong focus on clinical audit, user involvement and outcomes and identified centralised funds to support ongoing professional development. Whittington Health has a large number of OTs and there will be opportunities for professional development and supervision within the network.

    Main duties of the job

    The postholder will work alongside commissioners, local authority colleagues, educational settings and the parent/carer forum to ensure that children receive timely Occupational Therapy support to reach their educational potential within their settings.

    They will have a key role in working with the local authority around those engaging the tribunal process, explaining and advocating how children's needs are met in Haringey.

    Qualifications

    Essential

  • Qualification degree/diploma in relevant clinical area and current HPC registration
  • Attendance at specialist post-graduate courses relevant to paediatric area in neuro-disability or additional needs
  • Desirable

  • MSc or equivalent in relevant AHP area
  • Experience

    Essential

  • Experience of working with children with neurodisability and additional needs, using standardised assessments and implementing specialised treatment approaches
  • Extensive experience as a paediatric therapist in a range of setting including children with complex needs and additional needs
  • Experience of working within a 3-tiered model of care
  • Experience in using standardised and structured assessments, and in implementing specialised treatment approaches
  • Experience of basic budget management and understand how to balance cost effective and clinically effective services
  • Experience of goal setting and evaluating the outcomes of treatment
  • Experience of helping others to manage a caseload independently, and of working with other staff to implement treatment programmes
  • Experience of establishing and developing the AHP role within the multi-disciplinary team, and leading on aspects of service development to ensure good quality of service.
  • Ability to lead in clinical audit and service improvement
  • Experience of contributing to planning care in conjunction with service-users and as part of a multi agency team

  • Evidence of understanding the needs of children with disabilities and their families/carers, and to explain the role of the AHP to them
  • Evidence of advanced clinical reasoning skills required in order to deal with complex conditions and plan treatment independently
  • Demonstrate understanding of the role of and process of clinical supervision for self and others and have a proven track record of supervision, including an awareness of capability management
  • Knowledge and understanding of relevant health and social care legislation
  • Understanding and up-to-date knowledge of specialist clinical area
  • To demonstrate understanding of performance management and set out plans to achieve objectives to improve teams performance
  • Understand the importance of clinical governance and be able to demonstrate the application particularly in risk and incident management and user involvement
  • Demonstrate an understanding of responsibilities under the Health and Safety at Work Act, and of assessing risk within clinical work
